Humbug...

Unlike others I ordered and received the amp in 2 weeks which is a positive....
However, the hum which is well documented made it completely unusable. Hard to believe that an issue with the ungrounded power supply that has been going on for months is still being shipped with new units. I had to buy a 3rd party power supply from Amazon which saved this amp from the scrap heap.
Now it works perfectly with no unwanted noise and I can finally say that this amp lives up to the hype. I would recommend ordering the power supply when you order the amp so you have it when it arrives.

I think PG don't want to waste any extra pennies sending out the more expensive power supply.
I would've thought by now, they would've learnt that the only geographical areas that have hum are linked and are using an electrical distribution network other than MEN(multiple earth neutral)
and have at least one engineer on the payroll... lol -
When your first impression is... “I can’t even use this thing” it’s a shame because it really is a great little amp for the price. I’m certain I resolved the problem faster through Amazon than I would have through support.
-
sure, but nobody wants to receive a product after waiting so long and be forced to buy something else on Amazon to enjoy it.
I feel for the people affected...
at $179... I'll take 4 please
at $195... I'll take 2 then
at $209....I'll take it, no questions asked
at $224....sure,what the heck, give me one
at $299....WTF!!! I need an extra what? -
it makes me think who have set aside spare amplifiers in the distribution centers for possible fast shipments but still with defective power supplies..
-
@samueleonline there are no defective power supplies, they just don't meet the standards in regions with alternate electrification networks.

if this is not a defect ..
why don't other products have these problems? and why do they change the power supplies under warranty without batting an eye? -
@samueleonline its already been discussed in other posts.
Some areas in certain countries use different electrical distribution methods, all related to earthing -

not having considered such a problem for me is a flaw.. -
@samueleonline no not at all, you're missing the point.
there's nothing wrong with the amplifiers or even the power adapters...
It's the country, the state or the town you live in.
its the method the authorities get the electricity to your plugs in your walls.
Like some countries use 110v 60Hz and the rest of the world 220/240v 50Hz.
Google MEN electricity distribution,
It's for PG benefit to satisfy the customer that has this problem if they live in these particular areas.
It's not for PG benefit to supply a different spec/more expensive power supply to their manufacturing plan and sell the spark for $429
And all this means zilch.. nothing.. to the muso clicking buy now on a Web page... he just wants to plug n play... -

the problem is the butt, not the nettle
now everything is clear
all manufacturers of any electronic product with power supply that already provide grounding are spendthrift -
@crystalpit would sending a grounded power supply adversely effect someone who isn’t having this problem? Because it is adversely effecting people who do have this problem without the grounded power supply.
Bottom line.... Nobody should be having this issue.
-
@njbill39 would $399 be a better price?
manufacturers source components at 100 000 at a time to get the best price,
For now it seems they are prepared to cover the cost of a new power supply on a case by case basis,
My guess is the % factor is still extremely low of anyone having a hum issue.
profit margins on a product are achieved through a formula that takes the cost of every tiny thing into account to make a product, including a marketing %, there is no guesswork involved.
there is a reason yamaha thr and boss katana costs more.
I would guess the profit margins would be pretty close to one another on all of them. -
Okay, so a US based company is outsourcing to China to make a cheaper product but they didn't bother ensuring it worked properly in the USA. Now that they've screwed it up, they have determined that it's cheaper (more cost effective) to replace the faulty component with one that works ONLY for those that complain. Yet my vehicle is being recalled for potentially faulty floor mats. Regardless of the excuses, this is just a poor business practice by PG piled onto their poor logistics and inability to get customers the products that they sold. This is why regulations are implemented that result in higher costs which are passed on to consumers.
