Integrating iPad FX with Macbook
-
I have a lot of questions....
So my idea is to use my iPad for FX and have it integrated with my MacBook setup.
I am using a Native Instrument Komplete Audio 6 with my Macbook. Guitar is connected to that and the output is connected to speakers. Pretty simple....
Except I can't figure out how to use FX on my ipad to process the guitar in this setup.
Any ideas? -

Any ideas? There is only one way to do this that I know of and use "Studiomux" which allows 2 way communication with an ipad so it can be a sound module

The computer is generally more powerful. Why would you mess with this kind of setup? You would have to setup a send/return to the iPad's audio interface from your computer's interface, assuming it has enough I/O. A plugin would be way cleaner, less fiddling, less hardware, less latency issue, everything on one interface, etc, etc.
You are saving yourself the cost of a computer plugin license but that is about it. Your time and effort would have to not be worth anything to you if that is the motivation.

Basically, it comes down to wanting to settle on a platform. I agree the desktop is easier, more powerful , etc.
The iPad is more mobile though.... -
@elric Studiomux uses your charge cable for 2 way communication no 2nd interface needed - it rocks but is only for Mac : ]
This is something Apple is screwing us on - right now you can use an iPad as an external midi sound device that streams audio directly to your computer through the charge cable which is fantastic for use with synths (it makes the iPad a "soundcard" shows up in audio settings of all apps) for some reason apple is not letting us do 2 way natively but Studiomux proves it should and is really quite ingenious turning the iPad into an external sound module. - Cheers

The iPad is more mobile though....Both platforms serve a purpose and should you need one or the other they are available - the multi-platform connection thing is an Apple block and just not cool but as shown works with Studiomux. Hopefully more developers make advantage of this 2 way communication ability and keep improving it and better yet apple could just write it into their code for us...
The new iPad's are very powerful for the Apps they run in fact I prefer it now : ]

@tafkad using Bias on iPad with studiomux through lightning cable with guitar plugged into soundcard connected only to Mac:
you can see the Onyx card selected for In and Out and the meters moving for In and Out showing 2 way communication to my "iPad outboard module" yay! - cheers -
Pretty cool! Is studio up pretty stable?

Yea actually it is stable for this, I've never tried overloading apps in the Studiomux app inside the iPad but for a single app running I've never had any real issues. The latency is minimal but is noticeable to a degree. There's just no other app that does this yet and Apple is behind on this feature...

@tafkad Thanks for the tip, I am using Macs. That looks like a useful tool.
