I had one of these decades ago and got rid of it due to novelty fading. Meaning, it ceased to sound remarkable after a little while. I've read this is a common experience, as basically it is a gimic device, and your ear gets used to it. Especially with tubes, good tone comes from the amp and cab.

@tannhauser Strong agreement. They are really pretty worthless as a guitar effect. I prefer thing like PEQs, GEQs, compressors, as tone shapers... more precise and deeper controls and the BBE rack unit I had went the way of eBay fairly quickly.

Some people like em' some don't. I've always found them to be a very useful 'effect'. Especially with a 5150/6505 type amp.

Don't quote me: but I wanna say I've seen a BBE SonMax VST/AU plugin. I can't remember where. I'll see if I can find it.
