Spark Bricked After Firmware Update - Fix
-
Re: Spark crashed after firmware install
If you're getting the "five flashing lights" after attempting a firmware upgrade to your Spark 40, leaving you with what looks like a bricked unit (resetting to factory default won't even work), you might want to try what I did if you have a Mac: (note: do this at your own risk, I'm just posting what worked for me)
- Download and run the old updater (link to it is below).
- Connect your Spark 40 and "update" your firmware to the older version.
- Hit eject, and remove the cable.
- Go to the Positive Grid site, download and run the latest Spark 40 firmware updater.
- Connect your Spark 40 and update your firmware to the latest version.
- Hit eject, and remove the cable.
This worked for me. My presets and Bluetooth settings were preserved through this process. Special thanks to the original poster, who figured this out and snagged a copy of the old Mac installer. I'm posting this as a more recent reply because I see the problem persists here in late 2022.
