Spark 40 bluetooth issues
-
Is anyone else having issues with bluetooth on the Spark 40. What I'm seeing is that bluetooth audio connects without any problem, but it won't connect for the tone control at all. I did a bluetooth reset and a factory reset with no improvement. The amp's functionality is hobbled a bit without it. In fact, it is no longer a smart amp.

I have not seen a problem. GP released a new Spark App update a day or to ago (assume that’s the ‘tone control’ you addressed). I don’t connect to the Spark App very often since I set up my practice tones; however, I did connect to test out the new ‘User Display Name Search Function’ in ToneCloud with no connection problems. Are you having issues with the Spark 40 Audio Bluetooth connection as well? Are you connecting with an iOS or Android phone/pad?` -
@dan-lawrence I'm connecting with an iPhone. Latest app version and I've updated the Spark 40 firmware as well. Not having a problem with the bluetooth audio, just the bluetooth tone control, which means I can't access the cloud, change effects or effects settings, etc. Note that I also have a Spark mini and it works just fine with the same iPhone and app I use with the Spark 40.

Given that the Mini is working okay, I think you’re correct that the problem is with the Spark 40. Assume you haven’t made any recent changes in the area where you use the Spark 40 that would affect Bluetooth signal performance; guessing the Mini would have a newer, potentially stronger circuit. Could easily test by moving it to another room; however I wouldn’t expect a different result.Apple is also launching a flurry of iOS updates relating to recent undisclosed security breaches, as well as new iOS 16 release cleanup patches. Venders are quickly trying to adapt and respond. However, no chatter on Spark Forums suggesting others are experiencing any new connectivity issues.
You might try opening a ticket to verify that recent PG changes haven’t inadvertently prevented accessing both a 40 and a Mini from the same iOS device.
Depending on the age of your amp, I’d suspect the amp board circuitry. As I understand it, PG has heavily tied their own product security into the Amp-App connectivity. This has been an issue for those selling/gifting an old amp to someone else. Requires a ticket and associated grief to resolve…
Sorry I can’t be of more help…

@dan-lawrence Thanks Dan. I will try moving the amp to another location. I already have a ticket opened with PG and they haven't mentioned any issues with the latest iOS version. I was having the same issue on iOS 15 and just updated to iOS-16 a few days ago with no change.
