Hi all - I'm new to the Spark world, and just received my Spark Mini.

I'm noticing something that I haven't heard on other modeling amps. When I play a loud note, a kind of digital sounding hiss appears over top, and then disappears once the sound goes below a certain amplitude. It's almost like a gated hiss effect - it kicks in above a certain volume, then fades out quickly below that volume. I've turned off all effects and tried different amp models, and it still happens.

Is this normal? is it a Spark thing?

@gary_hutchings Thanks for that - I do hope it's not a hardware issue. I really want to love this thing - the size, the battery, the models - such a great combination. But it really needs to work (at least) as well as other modeling amps, and sound (at least) as good as PG software-based models.

I’d open up a ticket right away to protect your warranty rights. Identifying an out-of-the-box issue generally increases the chance of a faster replacement. It seems like a number of the more recent Spark 40 and Mini issues could be component infant mortality, which is not uncommon with commercial parts.

Do you get the same results through headphones and Spark Speaker? Guitar vs Song/Backing Track? Different guitar or guitar Volume/Tone settings?

@dan-lawrence Definitely happens with different guitars and tone settings - will check the headphones shortly.

Got a Spark MINI yesterday and noticed the same thing. It has nothing to do with high gain settings or use of the gate. Clean sounds do the same thing. Very audible hiss when a note plays, stopping after a second or so.

Heres to hoping it gets fixed in an update.

The problem is that with the noise gate engaged there is no sound, but while I'm playing I hear the buzz ... Spark MINI + iPhone as a Looper.
