Hi all - I'm new to the Spark world, and just received my Spark Mini.

I'm noticing something that I haven't heard on other modeling amps. When I play a loud note, a kind of digital sounding hiss appears over top, and then disappears once the sound goes below a certain amplitude. It's almost like a gated hiss effect - it kicks in above a certain volume, then fades out quickly below that volume. I've turned off all effects and tried different amp models, and it still happens.

Is this normal? is it a Spark thing?

@gary_hutchings Thanks for that - I do hope it's not a hardware issue. I really want to love this thing - the size, the battery, the models - such a great combination. But it really needs to work (at least) as well as other modeling amps, and sound (at least) as good as PG software-based models.

I’d open up a ticket right away to protect your warranty rights. Identifying an out-of-the-box issue generally increases the chance of a faster replacement. It seems like a number of the more recent Spark 40 and Mini issues could be component infant mortality, which is not uncommon with commercial parts.

Do you get the same results through headphones and Spark Speaker? Guitar vs Song/Backing Track? Different guitar or guitar Volume/Tone settings?

@dan-lawrence Definitely happens with different guitars and tone settings - will check the headphones shortly.

Got a Spark MINI yesterday and noticed the same thing. It has nothing to do with high gain settings or use of the gate. Clean sounds do the same thing. Very audible hiss when a note plays, stopping after a second or so.

Heres to hoping it gets fixed in an update.

The problem is that with the noise gate engaged there is no sound, but while I'm playing I hear the buzz ... Spark MINI + iPhone as a Looper.

                          Hi @badjohnnyone,
I have the same problem with my spark mini. Did you get an answer, that worked?
                          Thank you!

I have the exact same issue. There is a hiss and/or noise regardless of guitar, with the compressor and noise gate deactivated.

There is a video of what I am hearing here.

                            Youtube Video

Not sure if this is the unit or the software.

                            Disappointed.

This is still an issue and PG is Positively ignoring it.

                                Hello

I am also experiencing the issue. It is a big shame and even though I'm trying to modify my playing to not trigger it as much, when I get excited and play a little its present.

I have only noticed it while playing with the speaker, as that is my main intended use.

Where is the supposed online support? Please help. At least knowing what components to replace would be nice. Else, making more people aware of it so they don't buy it seems like a reasonable alternative to me. Are we really going to end up doing that?

I am thinking that it may be caused by an overload to the simulation circuit. Even if it's clean, if the settings are way too high in the app, instead of a type of pleasing distortion that comes out of a tube or solid state amp, this one just hisses. Like when a plugin vst is overloaded and clips.. I found that if I want more volume, changing to another amp or drive pedal and hitting the amp softer is preventing the hiss from starting even at max vol an tone from the guitar. See if that helps..

Same here. I find this as the biggest downside of the Mini (though I love). It seems to be a by design issue of the PG algo.
