Cannot pair Spark Amp or Spark Control.
-
I am really disappointed with the Spark Amp and Spark control.
I am running the latest android on an Android S10 Tablet, and cannot pair to the Spark Amp. I can pair to the Audio Bluetooth, but not the BLE. Also when trying to pair the app with the Spark control, it spins and spins, but never connects.
I saw somewhere where it says to disable all other bluetooth devices, which is total BS, we live in a connected world, none of my other bluetooth devices interfere with each other. If anyone has gotten this to work properly, and can provide a little instruction, I would be very grateful, otherwise I need to send this back and find something that actually works.
The spark app should list all Bluetooth devices it sees, and let you select them. I can see them on my tablet, but the spark amp does not seem to see them.

I have resolved this issue by restoring my tablet back to default, and setting it back up and adding the app again. After doing this, I am no longer having a problem with connecting to my Spark Amp or my Spark Control.
Not the ideal way to resolve the issue, but if it helps someone else, and they are willing to default their device, it may work for you as well. -
I found that having 'location' enabled is the key to this. Don't know why location matters in pairing but it needs it.

Don't feel bad - Spark Control doesn't appear as a device in the Spark amp OR in IOS Bluetooth; the Quick Start instructions are wrong; and the online instructions don't work and reference an outdated version of the Spark app. REALLY sloppy work on the part of Positive Grid Tried for days to get the thing connected to iPhone or iPad - nothing. Finally filed a support request/complaint today.

@silverface Seems silly replying to my own post - but the important part of the instructions I was sent:
They said to make sure I was updated to the current app version "2.2.xxx.xxx" (I don't recall the last digits, but...) - the current app version is 2.4.0.5210.
So the company isn't even updating their OWN apps before giving instructions.
And this is the SECOND issue I've had where the said the make SURE I was using the correct app - and gave me an old version number.
Then:
- First, connect your phone or tablet to your Spark Amp.
- Turn on your Spark Control by pressing the power button until the blue light flashes. Make sure Spark Control is within the connection range with your phone/tablet.
- Go to the “Profile menu” and click on the “+ Spark Control”.
- Spark app will search and connect to the nearby Spark Control.
- To verify if the connection is successful, make sure you see the "Successfully Connected" message by the end of the process, or check back at the profile menu to see if it shows "Spark Control Connected".
See #3 up there?
There is no "profile" menu, or submenu, anywhere in the spark app!
So NOW I'm waiting 1) for them to get their own &#$%^#% software updated, and 2) THEN to get some applicable instructions for this $120 paperweight!

@silverface I do believe that you have convinced me to demand a refund for the Spark Mini that I was told I would get in April. Now they say June, and for some reason I just don’t believe them anymore. I’ve seen to many negative comments on these forums. Thank you. I’ll put that money towards a Blues Jr rather than wait around for PG to get its act together.
Thank you.

@snarkyone1965 Mine turned up yesterday, about 10 days earlier than their revised date (mine was initially April too before being moved to May 16th-25th, I bought very early). I think it has been worth the wait, even if frustrating not getting it sooner.
I can't comment on using it with Android devices though. If you are expecting to use it with iOS devices, my experience has been very good, even if only for a short time with the Mini.
If you have decided to give up now after waiting this long, don't think it will hurt PG too much, but will have wasted your time.

@silverface I have had an ongoing issue with the Spark controller no longer connecting to the app. and have had an open ticket since April 15th. I'm running the latest app update and amp firmware update and I'm using an older Samsung Galaxy phone. I have location enabled, I have reset the amp and confirmed the controller is on function #1. The controller will connect with the AirTurn app just fine and even tells me there's a firmware update for the controller. I'm afraid to do the update because Positive Grid has their own configiuration loaded to the pedal. The last response I have received from PG was on April 29th. I'm frustrated with their slow response.
Also, the profile menu they're talking about is the 3 horizontal bars on the right at the bottom of the page. Click on them and it shows a picture of the amp then below the amp it shows if your connected to Tone Control and Audio, and just below that it says Spark Control. Click on it and it is supposed to connect to the controller. -
@shortequipone The pedal update is something I would do if I were you, or the Spark app and the pedal are on different versions than expected for each other. I did update my pedal using the AirTurn app as it is recommended on the Positive Grid website, and it is working as expected, but with the iOS app I concede (I don't have an Android device I could try it with).
The Spark Control does seem to be a rebadged AirTurn BT200S-4. No idea if the standard AirTurn would work. -
I'm still waiting for PG to ship my Control...paid for it several months ago!
-
@alphasportstv Mine took just over 2 months (very early March to early May). Don't know how 'typical' that is.
-
@broadkarnage I updated the firmware off the AirTurn app per the recommendation of PG support. At first I could only connect through the AirTurn bluetooth signal. Today, I was able to connect to the controller by making sure I was on function 1 and connecting bluetooth to Spark 40 BLE and Spark 40 Audio. Everything works as it should.

So frustrating. I finally got connected and now for some reason when I connect the Spark Control Pedal, the backing tracks in the app start to skip. Once I disconnect the pedal, backing track works fine. I’ve updated firmware on pedal, app, amp and phone all with no luck

@gb27 having the same issue with any music playing through the amp, from any source.

@gb27
Which Mode are you using on the Controller? Are you running tracks in ToneCloud Music from within the Spark App? I have not had this problem; however I haven’t used the “YouTube Control” Mode, or any of the individual YouTube commands in my custom Mode. I’m using an iPad for the Spark App. -
@smithy9320
I play backing tracks on AnyTune App using my iPad. I had several issues before I discovered that I had to have both the Spark App and AnyTune App active using ‘Split Screen’ on the iPad. Unless on Split Screen, the backing track app disrupts the Spark App Bluetooth pairing. -
@silverface Thank You VERY much. This was driving me crazy and your solution worked.!
