Updating Spark firmware without Windows?
-
Hi. I no longer have a windows pc and just accidentally updated the ios spark app on my ipad (damn you apple for not allowing per app update settings). Has anyone played around with applying the firmware update using a Linux based system? Perhaps using Wine? I wish the PG software engineers would take the five minutes required to write instructions for Linux, to simply extract the payload from the windows exe and write it to whatever sectors the firmware occupies (when the spark is mounted as an external drive). Just give me the linux dd command please, and I’ll sign a waiver saying I don’t hold PG responsible. :-)
But seriously, dependence on windows to upgrade the spark firmware is not user friendly. PG, please address this. Sure, next weekend I can pack up my spark, drive an hour into town to my mom’s, just to update my amp firmware. I will send you the bill for my gasoline! :-p -
I just updated my Spark using Crossover running on Linux (Fedora). II assume that Wine will work as well.

Unzip and launch the firmware update tool. *The update tool should be started BEFORE plugging the Spark into the USB port. 3. Turn on and connect your Spark amp to a computer using a USB-to-USB type B cable (we recommend using the one that comes in the box with the Spark amp).

I was able to update my Spark 40 using Wine 6.0.3 and Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon. You must connect the USB cable between the computer and the amp before starting Wine in order for it to be recognized as a USB device.
