Connecting spark to a 4x12 cab sounds weird
-
Hey, i used my headphone line out to connect it to my Marshall DSL100’s return in order to use de poweramp section so I could rehearse with it. The thing sounded gritty, strange, too muffled. Would it sound the same if instead of using my Marshall’s power section, I used a magnum 44 poweramp pedal? Has anyone gotten a good sound out of the spark through a speaker cab? I then connected it to my rehearsal room’s PA with an RCA cable and it sounded awesome. What’s the problem? What’s the correct way of doing this?

@emmanuel-bahena-j
The headphone out is a signal that already has an emulated power amp and speaker cab shaping the sound. You are adding another power amp and speaker on top of that, so I wouldn't ever expect it to sound good. A decent FRFR system would work - like direct to the PA. -
@emmanuel-bahena-j Get a pair of HeadRush FRFR108s, a headphone left/right splitter cable, and make it scream! Amp speakers will color the sound. Go all flat response.

@robfitton im sorry, what’s an FRFR?
-
@jonrdamesr what is a left/right splitter cable? Can I plug that in to a magnum 44 power amp, and make my randall 4x12 cab scream?
-
@emmanuel-bahena-j FRFR stands for Flat Response, Full Range. Those are the kind of speakers the Spark has. They do not change the sound like an amp speaker made just for guitar. The splitter cable is for the headphone jack, so you can send each side Left/Right to that speaker. Otherwise you will end up with stereo signals to each speaker and it sounds awful. I just happen to have a HeadRush set up and tried it out. It sounds great, and gets very loud. There are other brands than HeadRush. I just loved the name! :-)

@jonrdamesr thank you so much for the help!! So I’m planning on buying a magnum 44 power amp, do I still need the splitter? Or am I ok without it. Anyways, if I were to add the splitter, I would just need an adapter to convert the other end to a standard guitar jack right?
-
@emmanuel-bahena-j Not sure. Why the Magnum 44? You will still need 2 Flat Response powered speakers.

@jonrdamesr i have the same, but the headrush FRFR108 makes a bright hum - do you have as solution for this? tks + rds
-
@haraldvt I get a slight hum but nothing too bad. Are you plugged into a power conditioner or a power strip? That can reduce noise.
