Help me understand “why a Linux DAW”.
-
Hey everyone. This is my first post here, so consider this me “feeling this one out.” I’m not here to bash any companies in any way shape or form, which I know can be easy to do.
I’m kind of a re-emerging audio engineer / musician who has a lot of legacy digital hardware. Lots of it may be bound for classifieds sites or the Goodwill. But I’m also studying for my LPI 010-160 Linux Essentials exam and am intrigued more than ever with Linux and it’s seemingly endless flexibility. I’ve also been slightly exposed to Reaper, though would not consider myself ready-to-go with that DAW yet.
I’m a former Apple Supervisor, so I own a lot of Apple products and have been using Logic Pro X for years. I’m also a former Pro Tools certified operator, but fell out of Digidesign/Avid due to their high cost of ownership. Once apple gave me a copy of Logic Pro X as an employee, I was hooked and effectively cut all ties to Pro Tools.
I do like Apple for a lot of reasons, but lately the pro/con scale is shifting towards the negative a bit. I can usually justify why Apple would make a decision, but these last couple of years has become tougher to uncover some of the reasoning behind their actions.
