Input Volume - Bias FX2, iPad, Focusrite 2i2
-
I am struggling with Bias FX2 in my iPad via the Focusrite 2i2 interface. Everything is working, per se, but I am not getting the input volume I'd expect.
With the 2i2 gain set such that I am getting the green indicator with hard strums (just below the yellow warning indicator), I am only seeing Bias' Input Volume meter hit -12 to -10. That's with the input volume slider all the way up.
My understanding is that I should be striving for 0db on the input volume meter. But to get that I have to turn the interface gain way up to the point where it is clipping (ie - red).
My guitar is a Fender American Ultra Strat with single coil pickups.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, John

On digital gear, I leave way more headroom than on traditional analog gear. On an analog board I'd try to aim to be just barely out of the red (close to 0dB), but on digital gear I go for -15dB, because digital clipping sounds MUCH worse than analog. Some people go for -6 or -10. I've been aiming at -15 for years (at home and at gigs with my Behringer X18) without issues.
If your signal is staying just below the yellow warning indicator, then you're doing fine! No need to come in hotter than that. If your guitar sounds like a guitar, then don't worry about it!
