Footswitch for Spark
-
Hey guys!
I saw a Youtube video today. Finally found a footswitch that can control Spark. Has anyone used this xsonic airstep?!
-
@solotimez That looks interesting. Will have to see more people using it on the Spark.
-
@jonrdamesr It cost as much as the Spark itself.
-
That looks great. So the "lite" version would be enough to use it with Spark if I can see that correct? Any opinions?
I wonder if I can control Spark and my mobile Phone at the same time... -
@mdawir I believe you can from some of the videos out there.
-
@stinger0625 I think the Lite version is cheaper. Maybe PG will come out with something.

As far as I understand, Airstep only sends PC and CC via bluetooth. But it can't connect to Spark directly (no MIDI host). So how can it do this? Spark App doesn't seem to listen to MIDI messages.....
-
@giaturr I think it does it by the app on your phone.
-
@jonrdamesr , you can't choose Spark App as a MIDI receiver, in no MIDI routing app I know. And Airstep sends standard MIDI messages. Yo can connect Airtstep to your mobile, but Spark App will not listen to incoming MIDI messages.
On Youtube they say it connects directly to the amp, without the App...... -
Ok, now I have some more info...
Airstep DOES work as a MIDI host, so it can connect directly to Spark and send System messages to it. No Spark App needed.
It sounds interesting ! -

It sounds interesting !I have both a Spark and an Airstep Lite, and I can confirm that with the new v1.8 firmware the Airstep pairs flawlessly with it, and both sends & receives "system common" midi messages. I currently have mine setup so that the first 4 footswitches toggle the drive, mod, delay and reverb on/off, and the 5th switch cycles through each of the 4 channels with each press.
Right now, the biggest limitation is that the Spark cannot maintain a simultaneous connection to both the Airstep and the Spark App... It's either one or the other. I hope that Positive Grid will address this soon via their own firmware update that would allow it to connect to two bluetooth devices at the same time, in addition to the "Spark 40 Audio" connection for streaming audio.

OMG! 99.99 Airstep spark edition! Just take my money! XD https://xsonicaudio.com/pages/airstepsparkedition

It’s just a shame that with this pedal you can’t modify the settings of the tones using the pedal itself as I’ve spoken to a rep at xsonic and they say it’s a software issue on the spark side that doesn’t allow this feature which means you have to change the settings using the app or on the spark itself but not whilst the pedal is connected apparently.
It’s a shame this feature couldn’t be opened up so that it can allow the switch to be able to do this instead of having to disconnect it and then change the settings and then reconnect either through the app or through the spark itself as my amp is on a shelf unit and the pedal will be down where I can access it without moving.

@frank-genus This would be great. Positive Grid, I would like to add my vote to this request.
-
@solotimez I just ordered the Airstep Lite Spark. Looking forward to seeing how well it works.
-
@solotimez Just looked at it on the xsonicaudio site and it had a prerelease deal for the Airstep Lite for $99 marked down from $129 but site said it was sold out
-
@jimmy-cusack They must have had a limited quantity for the pre-sale for $99. They are not shipping until 6/20/21. Like the Spark, the demand must be very high.
-
Just received the Airstep Spark edition. I've not had much time to play with it but first impressions are that it works really well. It definitely makes the Spark a lot more useful (to me) as a practice tool.
-
Right, I've now had a lot longer to try the pedal out. Brilliant. Buy one.
-
@robfitton Glad to hear it. I am expecting my pedal to show up today!
