Re: "Can't delete undo.cfg" in Ableton Live
Hi all,
Is there a known issue using BIAS FX 2 as a plug-in within Ableton Live 11 Suite?
Whenver I use the plug-in within an Ableton project, upon closing the project I see...
"C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Roaming\Ableton\Live 11.0.1\Preferences\Undo" cannot be deleted.And it crashes out with the message;
Failed to access the Undo history file. Switching to memory based undo etc, etcYou then have to recover the project when you next open it?

@draven-morose
FWIW, I'm using BiasFX2 with Ableton Live 11 on Mac OSX (BigSur) without problems. -
Thanks for the info wilmarboer :) I should have said I am running 64bit everything on windows 10...

Hi
I've having this problem with Live 10 on Windows 10 64-bit.Undo.cfg can't be deleted on exit and Live asks if I want to recover on re-opening. I've been considering upgrading to Live 11 just to solve this; won't be doing that if it won't help!
Please post any solution you find.
John

This seems to be a very old, on going issue with the software.
If Positive Grid had a functioning technical support manager, these problems would not continue to degrade the brand name."http://community.positivegrid.com/topic/132/ableton-live-issues-corrupt-undo-cfg-after-loading-bias-amp-or-bias-fx" <----- This topic is no longer up, but this WAS certainly a known issue in the past. Probably is again.
"Re: Anyone seen this error before?
Post by bassbug » Thu Nov 12, 2015 10:38 pmThis appears to be specific to Positive Grid's plugins. I have both Bias and Bias FX and the issue appears with both. Likely impacts the newer plugins they've been releasing as well.
Postitive Grid has confirmed it's a bug and there's a thread on Positive Grid's site as well but so far it hasn't been resolved.

Hoping it's resolved soon as I'd really like to start using these plugins in my projects"

First of me hearing about this issue.
Just curious, have any of you tried to right click on the Ableton Live 11 shortcut, and chosen "Run As Administer"... Much more likely to be a crashing issue, but, to rule out some sort of cross permissions issue.Support is always a process of elimination, unless the known issue has been fully defined by support and software dev.

27/10/2021 I came back to this after a few months hoping for software patches all round to have fixed the issue. lol. Same as before.
A work around I am playing with is to ensure the plug-in (BIAS FX 2 in this case) is deleted from its track before I quit Ableton.
So in my project I have a track which records directly from my guitar. This sends to a track which contains the BIAS FX 2 plug in. From here I record to other tracks to get my different guitar tones. When I am done playing with the BIAS plug in, I save my project, DELETE THE PLUG-IN FROM THE TRACK, and then quit (ignore the prompt to save again).
Not ideal, but it lets me do what I want to at this stage. I guess I won't bother with that new Hendrix pack lol!

@gary_hutchings Hi there, Thanks for that but it didn't work for me. The computer said no...

@draven-morose If computer won't let you run in admin mode, you could have permissions issues.. You can try to create a new profile on your windows machine, under "users" in control panel. Permissions is an issue between all kinds of software. I am not sure, just giving ideas.. I would put in a ticket with support. No matter how much tech experience any of us have, they have access to internal databases we will never see..
-
@gary_hutchings Sorry, I wasn't clear... I can run as administrator a-ok. It just doesn't solve the problem :) I have already logged the problem with support... Months ago
As an aside, I had a play with my install of Reaper and the plug-ins work fine.

@draven-morose
Very sorry to hear that.If they would take some free professional support coaching, I could right their org real quick. But companies like this get lost in the money, they stop listening to anyone but the Sales people.
I have been in software support for 21 years(Last portion for Top Gov and Corp orgs globally), programing in basic since the early 80's. If their egos would let themselves sit for a two hour conference call with me, I could outline a functional support system for them. I built a tech support center from scratch, to world wide acclaim..
I say these things not to brag, but to point out, they won't even consider free help. From verifiable names, with world wide tech reputations.
Have you heard of the term "The American" in foreign business terms? Basically, he is the guy they hire to cut the BS and say things like they are.
Many of us have offered them free help, some I am sure are more qualified than me to help.
Positive Grid is suck in the mindless trap the last corporation I worked for was stuck in. Just before they went out of business.
"SELL, MORE, NEW, FEATERS, HARDWARE, NEW SERVICES, NEW BELLS!, NEW WHISTLES!, SELL, SELL, SELL!!!"They seem to care nothing about PROPERLY taking care of the products they have already sold. I am sure there are people being worked to death, trying to fix the issues, without proper resources or direction.
A few people throwing themselves on the sword will fix nothing, the whole company has to be aligned with a functional business model. Support is a critical feature of the model.
Thanks for listening :D

I got to tell all of Symantec bosses they would go down, and for most of the same reasons I expressed about PG..

@draven-morose Hi, Missed this post till now, but thanks for the work-around.
It's a pain, but if I remember to save the current set up as a preset, it's viable.
This kind of thing is really bad for Positive Grid's image as other posters have noted. I'm in the market for a practice amp, but I wouldn't touch the Spark, because it has all the hallmarks of a similar pain in the arse!
