These 100 Amp Match presets are Soooo much better than the stock presets (BA2)
-
Just though I'd give my impressions on the 100 free amp match presets that PG put up on the user cloud. I think a lot of these presets are leagues ahead of the stock presets/amps. For the most part they sound bigger, more full and clear, and lack a lot of that small, nasally, boxy sound I hear in a lot of the limited stock presets. Personally, I'm more impressed with the difference in sound with these than I am with the Celestion IR implementation. Don't get me wrong, I think the official celestion IRs are great, but these new amp matches are really good! At this point, I'm no longer bummed that the Modern/Vintage celestion cabs weren't included in the Elite version.
I find that I do very minimal (if any) component and cab/mic tweaking with the new amp matches. (I really think PG should use these as stock presets because I think people trying the Demo would be FAR more impressed...I know I am, and I've been using this software for years now)
Another thing I've noticed is that I'm really not using the celestion cabs now like I thought I would. Instead, I'm utilizing a few of the free Official PG Amp Match presets more than anything and occasionally adjusting the mic/s and the amp's front controls a bit for my needs...and that's only if I really need to. It's really no more tweaking than I have to do with a real amp and I'm really liking this!
All-in-all, I'm very happy with BA2 and I'm really starting to have fun as I've got some great crunch and lead tones ready for a few recording projects I've been working on. Feeling quite content here!
Anyone else finding these 100 Amp Match presets to be more usable right out of the gate with their stock settings? I'm basically click/select - Go!

Yes, they are prior and great, even in the bass section, where I love the Eden and Fender Bassman 1963 which sounds strong but subtle in a very pleasant way.
Well done PG

Before listening to the 100 amp match presets, I gave BIAS Amp 2 a quick listen and didn't think it was worth throwing any more money at Positive Grid, given my past experience with unmet expectations (installed product never sounding anywhere near as good as online demos, sounding more muted/dead than other VSTs, etc).
I agree that the 100 amp match presets sound significantly better and should be included in the stock presets. Since they're not, people demoing them are unable to download and tweak them in addition to being interrupted by silence several times while attempting to demo them on a single track.
I'm done giving PG the benefit of the doubt - given what I'm actually able to demo and tweak, and first impressions with the VST scaling bug, I'd much rather spend my upgrade dollars on the Mercuriall U530 or ReAxis and some OwnHammer IRs...

How do I try these? Are they on the cloud or something?
-
@pipelineaudio Yes go on the cloud in BA2 and click the far left (Featured) tab and you should see a big banner that says 100 New Amp Match presets. Just click on the banner and you will see all the categories. I started in the Crunch presets and was immediately impressed ;)
You can of course preview/try them without downloading them...you might know that already but worth mentioning

Cool, thank you!

I can see the presets, but when trying to download, it says "This feature requests Standard or Professional version to unlock", although I am already running a BA 2 Standard Edition. The preview isn't working either ... Any clue ?
-
@arupry The only thing I can think of is to go to your BA2 settings (top right) and make sure you are logged in to your account. If you are in fact logged in, you may have to open a support ticket.

AFAIK these 100 are Pro/Elite exclusive (see comparison in the store). This might depend on the Amp-Match or Amp-Pack feature or just version-politics.

I'm guilty of not reading the comparison chart, though I must admit that the error window that appears for him does say "standard" so I would say this is confusing if the comparison chart says differently on the PG site

@sascha-ballweg I have to agree they sound very good right out of the box:)

Anybody have any suggestions for getting Preview working? Thanks!

Nope! Works out of the box and had never let me down :/
On which plattform do you try and is your app-version latest? -
@arupry Honestly the standard version is useless. I had to upgrade because it wouldn't let me download anything. Positive grid decided to milk metal players by locking metal tones behind a paywall unless you upgrade to the pro version.
-
Positive Grid - just add a "download all" button to it

Is there any way to use these presets when using an actual cab? I've tried but it seems to not work well with cab emulation turned off
-
These new presets are Bias Amp 2 specific and since the Bias Amp 2 firmware for the head hasn't been released, I'm not sure how you're using a cab, other than using a line out to a power amp and then into a cab?
These should sound killer through the head once the firmware update is out.
-
@ásgeir-helgi-þrastarson I have Bias Head and also a regular laptop/sound card setup which I run through my Jubilee's poweramp. I downloaded some of the "100" presets and ran these through the soundcard into the amp with the cab bipassed in Bias. I think the presets might only work properly with the built in IR cab's? When run through my power amp, they sound pretty bad. When switching to any other non amp matched presets, such as the ones included, they work perfectly fine.
I could be wrong but I hopefully this might be rectified with the Bias Amp 2 update for Bias Head once the firmware had been released. Hope I make sense :)

Any way to download all of these in 1 go? Bias is rubbish like that. We should be able to download banks like in every other amp sim.
