Hiss and noise when playing any note.

@lbsubstylee19 There are actually two types of unwanted noise. The first is easy to fix with the grounded power supply. The second is created with presets with a lot of gain or effects such as compressor or tube screamer. The more effects and the more they are turned up, the more background noises there are. Gain and mids on the amp naturally also play an important role. Nevertheless, there are presets that cause a lot of background noise, but which I still don't want to do without. My Hendrix & SRV preset is one of those, for example. The high compressor and the mids are to blame. You then have two options. With the first one, carefully turn the threshold of the noise gate up until the noise stops. But as soon as you play a note, the Noisegate opens and in addition to the desired note you can also hear the hum. It creates an on off on off on off. But this bothers me a lot. That's why I take the Noisegate often out off the chain, and live with a constant hum in the background instead of this constant opening and closing.

give me name of the two noisiest presets you use and I'll check on my guitar.
I've had 3 amps, and all 3 have been quiet as a mouse, and I only use hi gain presets. -
@cmcwillieb Absolutely!
-
@de_cunny Thanks for your response. I have played with the noise gate a bit and usually turn it to 0.5 ish area, but I will try playing without it on more and see how that works out for me. Also, I rarely play any high gain- mostly just clean settings with reverb. Again, I'm not sure if my issue is unique or not, but I sent a video to PG and apparently it was alarming enough for them to offer a replacement, although I haven't had a follow-up on that yet. Thanks again!

@crystalpit Hey there. Thanks for your response. I get the hissing noise whenever I play any note or chord on any amp model/preset. I mostly play clean settings with little gain. I do play the presets 1 & 2 quite a lot and have quite noticeable hissing whenever I play them. I hope this helps.
Just curious, why have you had 3 amps? Also, when you play high gain presets and hit a single note and let it ring out, you only hear the note and not a hissing/sizzling noise?
Thanks,
Dan -
@lbsubstylee19 I'll give it a go and see, as far as I can remember the clean channels were dead quiet, and the hi gain were just as quiet.
I'm using an ibanez rg770 with di marzio ibz USA vintage pickups, HSH config, and a cheap cable.
I've sold my previous sparks on and just bought new ones, my 3rd one is going tomorrow, I might just order another one, I'm just not happy with the looper and chord syncing on the app, always have been, but it hasn't stopped me buying another, then another, then etc.... lol -
@crystalpit haha, I hear ya.
What's the looper? Apparently I still haven't fully explored all of the functions...
-
@lbsubstylee19 a looper is a function where you mark certain A and B points in a song file or video, and it repeats seamlessly over and over, and you can either slow it down to learn the notes of the lead break, change the pitch up or down, or just jam over a good section you like in the song etc...
something that most companies have perfected and improved on since the 00s but PG still hasn't got a grip on. -
@crystalpit Great, thanks. I'll have to at least try it out!
-
@lbsubstylee19 just had a quick go, there is tiny hiss at higher volume as you pluck the chords, on clean preset 1,but it's so subtle that I think it's within my parameters of been negligible.
the other 3 it's harder to hear as it's got grit gain on them, but still, it's within my parameters of being negligible and acceptable.
I tried a few of the high gain ones on the cloud, the only noisy ones were the ones with the noise suppressor off.
Now I don't own a Kemper or a Helix to compare such tiny amounts of hissing, next time I dust off my Digitech gnx4, I'll try and listen for such a tiny hiss etc.
My amp is going today, so until I get another, if I decide to, I'll have to have a jam at my mates house, if I want to test a few things on it in the future.. -
by the way, it's OK with my bass guitar at lower volumes.
But cr@p with my edrum kit, and doesn't like the bass kick too much,
thats the reason I got it again this time, just to test it with that.
I was hoping to get an all round unit if it passed that test.
My next step is to get a dedicated powered monitor or two and I know that will beat anything, as it's like a PA in the home... lol 😂 -
@crystalpit haha, yes! Well thanks for trying all that out. It seems that my "hissing" is definitely different than what you are experiencing
-
@lbsubstylee19 but some samples to check?
@de_cunny same for me...I turned noisegate off, it's better...
But when I use the headset, the constant noise cause to me headache

@lbsubstylee19 Did you ever get the replacement amp from Positive Grid?
