While we wait

Found a Headrush locally for $750. I have $1000. Seriously tough to resist but I’m going to wait a little longer for a PG pedalboard.
-
@alderre if you really need a pedalboard go the POD HD500X route, meanwhile.
It is easy and cheap to grap one used and there is a lot of fun in there. Personally, I have two of them (one for rehearsals and one at home). -
That Mooer I mentioned recently looks killer.

Except for the IR feature, the moore seems somehow limited to me.
It is very small and the sounds they recorded here are IMO some kind of fizzy and lame https://www.thomann.de/de/mooer_ge_200.htm?ref=search_rslt_mooer_425326_0Especially for a temporary solution, I would choose a used POD HD500X.
-
@sascha-ballweg : eh, distortion sounds fizzy to me. It's the quality, and those sounds seem fine to me (*). I was going by some youtubes and Ola's review (how I found about it).
- though of course I want no treble 'vibration'. The problem with distortion is it's messy, and circuits bleed. Fix these at the source, and....well.....you have something I think most people would want - but no one is imaginative enough to Grok.
-
@sascha-ballweg I am not that desperate as my very simple right of Bias FX with BT4 works.
I am going to give PG 6 months
How would you rate HD500x compared to Bias FX?
-
I don't know that I'd look at it as an either/or
If the HD500X is anything like the other line 6 stuff, it can be used as a soundcard and a MIDI controller, pretty convenient!
You could potentially use it to control an ipad or laptop or desktop OS tablet to run the enitre Bias + whatever VST's the way we're doing in the wireless pedalboard project.

Hard to handle but once you learned about the device you are, no doubt, able to create killer-tones, which sounds good in the mix and on its own.
One could even question how good the HD500 is compared to the top-notch devices like Axe, Helix, Headrush? If you do so then start a little game with the parts 1-4 of this blind-test.
PLEASE DON'T CHEAT AND NOTE YOUR SUGGESTIONS
Youtube VideoTo be honest, I could buy myself any of these dozen-wise, but I am not selling my POD HD500X because it fits my needs and fits my skills, which are not worth a top-notch device.
If my skill would improve, I would (maybe) reward myself with a new unit but now it's still practice time.
Overall; the POD HD500X is still a good unit, build like a tank and with lots of I/O

Wow! Could be down to him setting it up wrong or something, but really perferred the helix over everything with the 500 a close second, I did NOT expect that at all

At TGP there was a producer of professional IR-Files, who rated the POD as Axe or Helix not only once. As a conclusion we see the POD (which is 8 years old, technology wise) keeping up real good.
That's the reason, I like to keep two PODs (which avoids carrying around) rather than one premium unit.
-
@sascha-ballweg thanks for your advice. I should practice more too before I waste more time with new gear. Maybe the universe will give me a PG floor unit once I master the fretboard
-
I owned a PODHD. It is a terrible unit one of the worst products L6 has ever done. IMHO. That’s the great thing about personal experience you can make up your own mind without relying on anybody else.

Sales might tell another story. But of cause; personally, it's all about opinion.

RE - modeler comparison vid: modelers sound like recordings. Each instance in the vid gets the tubey-ness right, but sounds like different eq-ings/recording manifests.
Correction to above post: except perhaps Felix, who upvoted my thread on such technical conception.

You where able to identify the Helix without a doubt in all cases? Respect!

The waiting is the hardest bit
