MIDI Noob

Quick question. I'm a complete noob when it comes to MIDI anything. I recently bought an Akai MPK mini and haven't figured out how to use it yet. In going through BIAS FX 2 settings it looks like you can use MIDI to adjust settings. How do I even go about doing this? Also is there a MIDI expression pedal? Having a wah pedal in BIAS FX seems silly without a way to sweep it while playing unless you're happy just setting it and leaving it while you play.
