YouTube songs on Spark App

  • Hi All - Do you know how I could add a YouTube song to Spark App so that I can "jam" with the application/amp (seeing chords on screen)? From the Spark App, I see only option to play songs from Apple Music and Spotify only. Thank you in advance!

  • @stanleydang - When you connect up to Apple Music or Spotify, the Spark App actually looks up the track on YouTube for you to play along with, the App doesn't actually use your preferred music service to play the track. So in summary, add your track to your preferred music service, then the App will look up that track from YouTube!

  • @stanleydang - in the bottom bar go to the music window in the center and click on the magnifying glass at the top right
    the search on youtube opens..

    I confirm.

However, As per my first experiences, I find the chords analysis weird sometimes...And usually wrong.

Am I the only to notice it ? For example "miss you" (rolling stones) or "Old Love" (E. Clapton).

  • @moutchouuk I have noticed that alternate tuning throws it. I got songs that I know are tuned 1/2 step down and it displays the chords as all sharps or flats.

  • I couldn't get it to work on my iPad but works just fine on the app on my Android phone.

  • @moutchouuk I have too on a couple songs. It seems to really like open position chords.

  • I see they've sort of fixed the looper function now, but it's not seamless and it can only be edited block by block, so it's hard to get a seamless loop to jam with.
    am I doing something wrong?
Or is this it? the final loop function for this app?
As long as they don't mention seamless looping in their advertising, we must accept this?
after all, it's 2020 now, I would've thought all looping in music would be seamless now, regardless if "seamless " is mentioned in advertising or not.

  • @crystalpit Interestingly I saw a demo video https://www.positivegrid.com/spark-auto-chords-technology?trk_msg=A3KNBSJMJ8QKNF4NHGB0RDJMDG&trk_contact=JHB4OH5SCP2FTQ1F2JAF8UJ8KK&trk_sid=KGQR26K2BOFTIUMT7UQ5DF79G8&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Watch+it+here.&utm_campaign=Spark_update&utm_content=Spark_0806_Update%237.3 just yesterday and at about 1:10 into the video he discusses the looping function and shows it in action and it is as smooth as one could wish for. So I tried it on my app, and it still has a slight glitch in it as the loop starts again. I wonder if he designed that song so that the loop covered a section where the sustain hid the glitch.

I did submit a support ticket and the response suggested that I uninstall the app and reinstall it (I haven't done that yet) and that he would also pass my complaint along to the development team.

  • Does the YouTube new advertisement in the middle of the video effect the spark app playback?

  • @dhbailey yes I saw that, that's why I opened my app again and tried it.. as last time I used the app the looper wasn't working.
And previous to that, it was working, but as useless as it is now.
When I tested it, on a few songs, there is definitely a split second pause before the phrase repeats.
I notice you can only slide the loop marker through those box measures, not half way through the boxes, and the chord changes blocks are not exactly on the downbeat of the phrase you want to loop, and thats why it's not good enough to practice over.
Maybe the song he uses has perfect alignment of the measure blocks and the chord changes.
    Quite coincidental.

I bet he didn't tell you that all your settings and patches you've saved get erased when you reinstall it.
all good if one has just played around testing things here and there, but for someone who maybe has spent 5 days going through the 10 000 library patches and chosen what one likes, might be
    p!ssed off.. lol

  • @crystalpit I figured that would happen, but since I don't have the amp yet it's not that big a deal. And since I plan on mostly using my iPad to control the amp, I did the whole remove/re-install thing on my iPhone first. It had no effect, the loop glitch is still there. So I didn't bother doing it on the iPad so the few tones I've downloaded there are still present and I can download them again to my iPhone. I think the song that was chosen for the demo video was written specifically for that purpose and the sustaining tone used masked the glitch.
