BIAS FX with TS Mega: no input signal
-
Hello... I have an issue not solved since 3 months ago, I would like to solve it because it is frustrating (I opened a ticket but it’s still pending...)
First: I’m Italian and my English it’s not so good so forgive my mistakes and forgive me if I don’t understand perfectly...
Gear owned: iPad (iOS 13) with Bias FX, BIAS Amp2 (and JamUp for a test); TS Mega as a interface/foot controller; Lightning Camera to connect iPad and TS Mega.
Keep in mind: all this system works fine if I use JamUp, it doesn’t work at all with Bias FX!!
I mean: with Bias FX correctly connected to TS Mega via Lightning camera, I can’t hear any sound because there is no input signal!
Note: the iPad microphone is allowed to work with Bias FX in privacy settings and it’s not an output problem because if i start virtual drums or metronome I can hear them; it’s not the input channel because I tried every combination (input 1, input 2, both inputs) and always same result, no input signal; last but not least, iPad volume is 100%.
I tried with Bias Amp 2 but... same issue!
I tried with Bias FX 2 but... same issue!So... resume: it cannot be an ipad or TS mega issue because they work with JamUp... it seems to be an issue with BIAS (FX or AMP) technology!!! Am I right?
Why the hell is it working with JamUp and not working with Bias??
What the hell is going on?I would like to switch to Bias 2 Elite but actually it’s not possible, because of this issue...
I am so frustrated because I love this program and I’d like to use it live (that’s why I spent money to buy a TS Mega).
Is there anyone who can help me, please??? money to buy a TS Mega).
Is there anyone who can help me, please??? -
If it makes you feel any better my TS Mega works fine w/ Bias FX Mobile. LOL. I use the powered Apple CCK. It can take a power input to charge while using the USB interface.
-
I am interested in TS Mega as well, and have taken note that some YouTube reviews were given a lightning/USB splitter with their review unit. I hope this helps you.

Thanx for your reply Elric!
I think I didn’t understand your connections iOad/TS Mega.... I’m not an informatics expert :((( -

I will try that solution but... why iPad with TS Mega works fine with my usb lightning camera if I use JamUp and it doesn’t work with Bias FX 1 and 2??
It’s strange, isn’t it?? -
@o_oliviero I don’t have Bias FX 1. Unfortunately, Bias FX 2 MIDI is not implemented yet.
Let us know if you get the TS Mega working. It seem to be a good unit

Hello... my problem, now, it’s not MIDI, I think is the input signal with Bias FX.
If I understand your reply, TS mega is working fine with JamUp and not with Bias FX and it’s pretty strange: why is it ok with JamUp and KO with Bias Fx (I or II) and Bias Amp 2?? :,((( -
@o_oliviero No, I do not have the TS Mega...I’m hoping you find a solution, then maybe I will buy the TS Mega when Bias FX 2 has Midi capability.
incidentally , I have JamUp Pro but unable to get midi learn to work with a Lodigy UMI3 Midi pedal. Sorry for the confusion.

Don’t worry, no problem!!
I’ve investigated a little more... I tried BiasFX/iPad with my previous soundcard (iRig HD): if i connect it with its cable - first image - it works fine (I have input signal!!) but if I insert usb/lightning connector (iPad —> lightning/USB connector—> iRig cable —> iRig) - second image - it stops working (no input signal and alert: “connect iOS interface”)
It cannot be the lightning/USB Camera connector because it works fine with other apps (such JamUp)....
So: it’s a mistery to me!!!Heeeeeelp!!!
-
I think the lightning connector on the USB Camera connector is only for power and does not pass any data through. Only the USB-A port on the adapter will transfer data. Connecting the iRig to the lightning port on the adapter will not work.

Thanx for you answer, Chris...
So, a couple of questions:- why does the same connector work fine if I use JamUp with iPad? And it doesn’t work if I use BIAS FX (or BIAS AMP2) with iPad... AH!!! If I use same connector with BIAS FX on iPhone it works!! Pretty strange, I would like to understand what is happening...
- What is a USB-A port???
-
If it works on the phone, then I must be wrong about the lighting port on the adapter. Could you try the other cord for the iRig HD (the one that has the USB connector on it) and plug it into the USB port on the adapter and see if that works?
USB-A is the type of USB port on the adapter with the camera icon above it.

You were right! It works on iRig!
So: on the connector, USB port is to provide both, signal and power, Lighting port is ONLY for power!So...
I tried to connect my TS Mega and here is the results:
- connections: iPad connected to usb/lighting connector;
- on the USB/lighting connector (on the other side), lighting port connected to power (here is 220V) while USB port connected via USB cable to TS Mega. Immediately the reminder (the one telling me to connect to an iOS device) desappears... well done!
But... still no input signal! Sigh!! I mean, if I push on L-in encoder (pedalboard Bypass activated) I can hear my guitar sound but no effects (ts mega obviously bypassed)... ok! If I push again L-in encoder... still no input signal. If I raise up L-in encoder to a max level, i can hear a processed guitar sound but at a very low volume and with a lot of distortion!!!
I tried to unplug the lighting cord (the one connected to power).., TS Mega was still active (power supplied by iPad itself, a regular feature of TS mega) but after few seconds (very scary thing!!!) every led started blinking and I could hear a loud “hiss” coming out from my speakers!!!
IPad level battery: 76%
Ipad volume: 100%
I will throw everything out of my window!! :((
Edit: with USB cord connected to TS Mega and Lighting cord connected to power, I can send to Bias FX MIDI instructions and I can use my pedalboard live... Just input signal is missing... but what about a double USB connector in order to connect mi iPad to both iRig (for signal) and TS mega (for programs changing)????

Sometimes when I connect my Apogee Jam before opening Bias FX 2, it does not seem to recognize the Jam. If I pull the USB cable out and then back in, it recognizes the input. Have you tried opening Bias and then connecting the TS Mega after the app is open?
-
@chris-0 yes, of course. Now it recognize it (since the output works - I can hear virtual drums, I can hear my guitar in by-pass mode, I can change programs or toggle effects on and of with TS Mega): it seems the only problem is processing input signal....
-
SOLVED!
I’ve recovered my iPad to factory settings and now everything is fine.
Now the problem is the missing answer I am waiting for from Positive Grid, even if I opened a ticket....
that is not good :( -

Okay not going to read all the posts so not sure if you had this one answered, ignore this if so
The lightning port on the camera connector is "not a data port" and can not be utilized that way (though I really wish they made one that did - that could do data on lightning and power on usb)
Anyway if you want to use the camera connector you could use a Crapple Lightning to USB adapter that would allow connecting the iRig to the usb port and allow connecting a power source to the lightning port on the camera connector. This will power your soundcard and some to your iPad. (Note: there should be a cable from iK to connect the iRig HD to a usb port that would work well too)

@tafkad
Thanx fo your reply. As I told in my previous post, fortunately I’ve solved! I recovered my iPad to factory settings and now everything works fine! -
Was dealing with this same problem today. Found the solution (for me at least) via MeloAudio’s forum.
Read through to the end of the last post on that forum page.
Pretty much... Open up GarageBand and check the input level. Make sure the slider bar is adjusted to max. Seems to be something buggy with GarageBand that stops the input signal across the device entirely. Very relieved to solve the matter. Hope this helps someone else.
