Line out
-
Hey guys, I'm looking forward to buying this new amp, which seems amazing, but I'm wondering why you guys didn't include a line out, a 3/4' line out... I mean, I know there's the headphones output, but it would make a really nice addition if you include a line out to connect to a PA or a mixer... This is a really good amp, and I think there's a lot of potential asides from playing alone

Hey, omorales01,
You can use the Spark headphone out to an amp or mixing board. What you need is a Stereo to Mono Summing Cable with Resistors ( 3.5mm TRS to 1/4" TS ). Do not use a straight stereo to mono cable, you could mess up your Spark because of the load on the amp. I use a Stereo to Mono Summing Cable from Castline. I am running the headphone out from the Spark to a Quilter MicroBlock amp (flat EQ) with a 12" open back cab and the rig sounds great.

@gregory-snow Thanks for the tip...I just purchased the Summing Cable from Coastline.
-
@gregory-snow thanks Gregg, so, can i use a 1/4 to dual mono cable??
-
Hey omorales01, I'm not sure what you are asking about the 1/4 to dual mono cable. The Spark headphone out is 3.5mm TRS (TRS=Tip, Ring, Sleeve) and if you want to combine the stereo output and send it to a mono input, like TR, you need a summing cable or box using resistors to protect the power side of your Spark amp. If you want to go from 3.5mm TRS to a two channel input, like two RCA jacks, then you do not need the summing cable - you can use a straight cable like this: Hosa CMR-215 3.5 mm TRS to Dual RCA Stereo Breakout Cable

@gregory-snow
Could I safely use the mono cable below to go from the Spark headphone out to an amp or cab? I only want to hear my mono guitar output, not music or stereo.

@jonj33,
Yes, that cable will work and not cause damage, but you will only get one channel from the Spark and not the sum of left and right.... probably not a big deal sound wise. I have not tried using one channel, so you should post here if it sounds good. It sure costs a lot less than the summing cables. -
@gregory-snow easy enough to make a summing cable to what ever length you like
can have mono and still do stereo if you need to. a little soldering 2 resistors and youve got best of both . -

Quilter MicroBlock amp
Hi,
I know this is a old question, but I want to play the Spark amp through my Peavey Deltablues and you seem more knowledgeable about this.
I understand that there is a cable I could get but I am in the UK and I cant get anyone to make me a cable!
I also see that you use a Quilter Microbloc 45.
I have a number of boss pedals and a boss GT-100.
So I am wondering if you could advise me if any of these would work.
If I dont ask I wont know.Thanks

I am wondering if this cable will work:
Tisino 1/4 inch (6.35mm) TS Mono to 1/8 inch (3.5mm) TRS Stereo Interconnect Cable(Mono to Stereo)- 3.3 feet/1 Meter https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07K58VM48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_zQSSFbSQKN43Y?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks!

@sadbttru
Hi Thanks for that.
I understand that I need a "Stereo to Mono Summing Cable that has Resistors.
Apparently the resistors are needed to protect the power side of the Spark amp!
Again thanks

I have a question maybe you could answer....I play through a 2x12 Electrovoice speaker loaded packed closed back cab ...a total beast ... that have their own individual 8 ohm line in's ( so I run 2 cables out from my Blacksrar into the back of the 2x12 for my live setup )
My question to you is if I were to run the Spark headphone jack OUT to the Cab inputs using this:
Would there be any danger of damaging the amp in your opinion?

I'm interested in the same thing, but going directly into a PA/soundsystem. Would this work?https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HF5NRGN/ref=syn_sd_onsite_desktop_159?uh_it=455aee05b354d7b3fa593a4001c5a422_CT&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFGMDVYQ0ZRSk1LUDgmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA1NTcyNzgyS0hNVDdKUVU1OFBPJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0Mjk5NzcyNDdYUVlQSzRFMzRTJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c2Rfb25zaXRlX2Rlc2t0b3AmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl&th=1

I know it’s old…so am I. I bought the cable below based on advice in this thread. But when I try to take plug that into my amp or my powered cab I get a loud jolt that makes me think the “overload” noted above was happening. I have not plugged it back on since.

…Makes an ugly loud noise when I use this cable to connect Spark headphone out to Fender amp or head rush powered cab.
This is what you recommended, right?

You can add a line-out to Spark amplifier, using 2 Behringer DI400P Ultra-DI Passive DI Box, a few rezistors and condensers like in this scheme:
The inside of a Behringer DI400P Ultra-DI look like this:
I added the components as in the scheme (I connected in series 2 electrolytic capacitors of 4.7 micro with the common plus, to obtain the value of one of 10 micro unpolarized):
I pulled two cables from points TP56 and TP57 according to the photo:
I added two 1/4 inch Mono Jack Socket:
and a couple of holes on the back panel:
All done! Now I have a line out with no buzz, no background noises, perfect for any audio mixer.
And don't forget to set the switch of the DI on lift position. The background noise will disappear as if by magic.

@geo-goga Can this be done with only one Direct Box? I have the same model, the thing is I tried plugging my Spark to my Marshall Origin 20 combo (Tube Amp) with a TRS to TR cable and get this very harsh hum/growling sound......... And can it be done with the line out / headphones jack?

Hi, my board looks completely different than yours. My processor is a daughtercard, and where you have the TP connections don't exist in the came place.
I was one of the early adopters, so this is probably V1 of the main PCB. (Looks like they were considering adding a subwoofer to it too, as there is a place for a subwoofer amp)
I really feel like Positive Grid really blew it here. I want to be able to play through it, with my presets, being able to listen to the speakers, and also have a line out to send to the mixer. All they needed to do was add a single jack.
Anybody got one of these boards, and could tell me where the TP connection would be.
Thanks.
M
