Question about Impulse Responses
-
Hey guys. Do IRs sound different in Bias if they are loaded in bias and downloaded via tone cloud vs using an IR loader like fiddlicator?
-
They could
I've taken to making all my amps on the desktop and them sending them over the cloud more for convenience's sake, and the sketchiness of Fiddlicator and Rooms! over IAA, than any sound difference I may get. I'd sure LOVE an IR loader in Bias Amp iOS and Bias FX!!!!
-
youre tellin me. id love to even just have bias fx.
i wonder about Jamup and the "unsupported modules" because with Jamup and Jamup pro I would be able to load two bias amp models with preset switching inside of tonestack.
Maybeb you can help me experiment since you can load stuff with IRS and AMP MAtch in tonecloud and tell me the names of your tones
-
I have piles of tests up of different impulses and pretty much stock heads. Its either under "Aaron Carey" or "pipelineaudio"
-
Wait. Are you people saying that I can actually download amps with IRs from tonecloud, download them and open them with iOS Bias?
I just assumed the IR would be lost when I opened the preset from the cloud.
So can I?
-
Try it :)
-
Lol yeah the IRs are baked in. But it also doesn't give a lot of flexibility with changing your own. I think it also makes a difference if you do an amp match with a specific cab but then try to use a different one.
Example: I download one of Aaron's amp marched jcm900 patches. He amp matched it with a Marshall 4x12 with v30s. That cab is in the amp match tone now. So even if I download the patch and take the cab out and use an IR it might not be right because his cab is in the "amp match" block.
Does that sound like how it would work or am I super wrong?
-
I turned off the amp matches, usually they're named after the impulses I used. I don't quite understand how amp match works, so I just bypass it. What you should be hearing are either stock amps with impulses, or slightly modded stock amps that I was using for mixes (often when I have to mix layered guitars, especially with these %^^^%$^& kids with %^%^&% 24 3/4" scale les pauls that can't tune them, I have Amps where I high pass quite a lot of lows before it gets to the preamp stage)
-
Oh ok so then JamUp strips the IR from the amp model the
-
So I imagine that if I used any of the expansion preamps like crunch or insane or glassy to build an amp in bias it wouldn't sound the same in JamUp anyway so I have to cancel that out of my options.
So really what that means is if I want to run two bias amps I will have to break out my old iPhone and have two going at once lmao

So can I?Yes. It's a great feature.

Yes, your thinking is correct... if you do an amp match the match is post-cab. Since the match included EQ adjustments to get the orig cab model to map its specific frequency response to the cab of the real-life amp, switching cabs may or may not give good results and it certainly would not be 'accurate' anymore. Likewise turning off/using no-cab on an amp match. It is a total crap shoot and usually doesn't work for me without significant additional EQing etc and is generally not worth it (IMHO).
I have a setup where I can go FRFR or power amp->2x12 cab with my iPad. I have a lot of Amp Matches I like but I do not use many Amp matches when running the real cab because generally they do not translate well unless the cab in the amp match is at least similar to my cab. I do have a very few that sound good with my cab with some EQ... it requires a lot of experimentation and I generally don't try to do it much.
If you really wanted mix and match cabs with an amp match you might be able to improve your success by shooting the match with 'no cab' in Bias and a direct, attenuated amp power amp output using a load box with no cab emulation.
This would give you a 'true' amp to amp frequency response match with no cab in the chain on either side. Then you should be able to mix and match cabs/IRs with the 'matched' amp. Ordering does not matter on an IR/EQ curve post amp.
That's an involved process for most amps and most people are noit going to have the equipment to do it. Maybe I will try to amp match one of my AxeFx II models with cab disabled on both sides using this method for fun.

@elric yeah please let me know if you do that. I would love to try those out. I have a couple IR loader apps but they are glitchy at best. I would feel much more comfortable with a piece of dedicated hardware.
