BIAS FX 2 MIDI control
-
Sorry to ask this but been combing the forums for info with not much clear luck. I recently upgraded to BiasFX 2 Pro. Returning player, been a long time. Is this to say there will be MIDI control for an external pedal board so for example could be used to switch between quicksnaps?
And does anyone have a suggestion for an affordable board, like to get one with an expression pedal.I see IK media has something like what I am talking about.
Apologies if this has been covered.

@dustinb3d That’s the promise. We’ve all been waiting for the update to unlock the MIDI functions. The last tentative date for the update is “Early May”. Which is..... now. So far, nothing... But we all have high hopes!. And only slightly diminished expectations! 🙄
As far as a usable midi controller goes... Everyone seems to like Behringer FCB1010... Dual built in expression pedals! I’ve had issues with the buttons going bad on them... But maybe I just got a bad one. Only MIDI 5 pin outs. Around $149 to $200
I’m looking at the new MeloAudio MIDI Commander. It’s compact, optionally battery powered, has both USB and MIDI 5 pin outs, and is pre-configured to Bias FX, JamUp, and a number of other programs. No built in expression pedals, but it has inputs for 2 expression pedals (I happen to like that better!). Around $150.
I’m currently using an old Boss GT-3 floor unit. The internal sounds are crap, but it makes a marginally decent MIDI controller. One built in expression pedal and one input for an additional expression pedal. Only MIDI 5 pin outs. I’ve seen them as cheap as $75 on eBay.
If you’re REALLY into having multiple expression pedals, look at the Roland FC-200. It has one built in expression pedal and 6 inputs for external expression pedals. It’s only MIDI 5 pin out. I e seen them for around $170 on eBay.
I’m sure a ton of people ha e other suggestions as well..

Thanks for the quick reply and taking time for recommendations.
I really like bias and would prefer to stick with them. I would hate to have to buy another software etc. Hopefully the update will come soon. I personally don't mind it being late if it works properly rather than now and broken. From the tone of the thread I think it would be a disaster to release broken software at this point. It sounds like any midi compatible device should work, like any other midi application. I will start looking around and hold tight until we hear about the update before making any purchases.
Frankly I am surprised they don't already have their own hardware for this.

@dustinb3d One thing to be aware of. If you’re planning on using a controller that only has MIDI 5 pin outs, make sure that your interface has actual MIDI inputs. Controllers with USB outs don’t require separate MIDI 5 pin in ports.

@guitarkite Ah ok gotcha, thanks for the heads up. Eyeballing that MeloAudio. I dont need anything quite that large. Something with 4 or 5 switches would be fine but for the cost comapred to smaller units not a bad fit. Will check out used stuff on ebay etc.
Thanks agian -

Guys, the wait is finally over. We just released the latest build with MIDI. Please visit Download Page to update it, thank you.

Thank you!!!

Aaaarg! I’m at work right now!!! Guess I’ll have to download it this evening... So... Everyone... What’d they change? What’d they add? Is the MIDI implementation good?

I actually went home for lunch to check it out with my FCB1010. The scene switching is really nice and smooth, CC controlled globally, so you don't have to edit each preset and map each scene to midi. With my controller, I set FS1-3 and 6-8 as PC for patches, and 4-5 &9-10 for scenes. I have noticed a few minor bugs when editing scenes and overwriting presets, the sound engine goes a bit nutz, but reloading the patch fixes the issue.
I do not have any feedback on wah or volume, but to be honest, I don't use them that often.
so far 1 3/4 thumbs up!

I can’t assign scenes, cuz when I go out from the scene select bias load the first scene. Anyone have the same problem?
Also i’m Running the standalone versione at windows size 175% and when I open the midi control assignement the pop up go outside the border of the window...

update is available! I am installing now.

So I went home at lunch to download and tryout the "New Improved" MIDI implementation... And... Color me UNDERWHELMED.
It has essentially the SAME problems that plagued the original. Apparently, Positive Grid misheard its users. We didn't want "MORE" MIDI implementation... We wanted "BETTER" MIDI implementation. I didn't need the option of hooking up 20 expression pedals (which BFX2 can do.) We wanted the 1 or 2 expression pedals we have to work the EXACTLY the way we want them to! Minimum and Maximum limits! Auto-engaged Wah. Polarity reversal so you can cross-fade effects. (None of which BFX2 can do, but virtually EVERY other comparable software on the market can!)
Instead, we have an endless number of controls that we can assign cc#'s to. This may be understandable if you were running a large midi control surface... But since most guitar players are kinda preoccupied with their hands, and usually opt for a MIDI foot controller, this makes very little sense. Tell me! When EVER would a guitarist need to assign one of their limited expression pedals to 90% what's offered in BFX2? And yet what's needed, is still missing!
Come on guys!! You hit the ball out out of the park on nearly EVERY other aspect of your software! Why is THIS your Achilles heel?

So, auto wah engage is not working?
-
@esofron Nope.
