Poping and crackling in Bias FX
-
Hello
I get pops and cracks in Bias FX. I tried numerous solutions, both 32 and 64 bit, standalone and VST version, various buffer and sample rates and Im always getting some crackling sound. Im using Focusrite scarlett 2i4 2nd gen as my audio interface with up to date drivers. Can this hardware be a problem related to focusrite or am i missing another solution to this issue?

Popping and crackling are almost always driver or sample rate/buffer issues. You usually either have to get a better driver or keep upping the buffer until they go away. Sometimes it is the sound card driver or the computer that is the limiting factor.

I already tried the buffer thing and it didnt help. The problem doesnt seem to be focusrite related. I used gt-1000 as soundcard and it still crackled. It was playing good only when i bumped up the buffer all the way up to 2048 on the GT. But that gives way too much latency.
My PC is decent, i7 cpu and 16GB RAM so this cant be the issue. BIAS disortion sounds great, way better than my GT-1000, but the crackling is really annoying -
Shrug. Sorry but that is a;most always root cause. PCs are a pain like that. You could try checking connections and levels to make sure you don't have a bad cable/connection or level problems but if you are getting it from multiple interfaces, I am guessing it is something to with your machine/OS and/or its configuration.
The only other thing I see this kind of symptom on is like clock mismatches but your setup does not seem that complex... you could make sure your driver setting is not out of sync with the DAW/app. If you are using something ASIO4all I guess you should check to make sure its settings are aligned with the DAW/app. It has been a long time since I bothered with audio on a PC.

Run this for a bit and show what you get

this is what i got after 12 mins of latency mon. There is a buffer underrun problem but im not exactly sure what to do next with it:
CONCLUSION
Your system seems to be having difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. At least one detected problem appears to be network related. In case you are using a WLAN adapter, try disabling it to get better results. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.

Hardware: Precision M6600, Dell Inc., 04YY4M
CPU: GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2720QM CPU @ 2.20GHz

CPU SPEED
Reported CPU speed: 2195 MHz
Note: reported execution times may be calculated based on a fixed reported CPU speed. Disable variable speed settings like Intel Speed Step and AMD Cool N Quiet in the BIOS setup for more accurate results.
WARNING: the CPU speed that was measured is only a fraction of the CPU speed reported. Your CPUs may be throttled back due to variable speed settings and thermal issues. It is suggested that you run a utility which reports your actual CPU frequency and temperature.
MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.
Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 1996,70
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 17,851435Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 1963,70

REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.
NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Total number of hard pagefaults 981

I'll see what specifics I can dig up, but if that system doesn't run green, you don't even get to start...lets see how to get it figured

It works ! The fix was simple afterall, just downloaded and installed all possible dell updates (bios, firmware, drivers) and it stopped crackling. Finally i can enjoy this app :)
