      I have just tried using BiasFX on my iPad Mini with an iRig HD2 as the interface. Whenever I touch the iPad screen to do anything, there is a distinct buzzing. Is this something I should expect, or is there something wrong somewhere? I love BiasFX on my PC and wanted to bring the goodness to my iPad too, but this buzzing makes it hard to use. Ideas?

          @pipelineaudio I will try on a different iPad when I get a chance. That should tell me if it is the iPad or iRig hopefully.

            I've had interfences with iRig HD2 and iPad Air 2, but nothing I've associated with touching the screen. More closeness to laptop and other equipment. And a bit wobbly contacts going into the iRig.

              @john Mine is definitely to do with the screen. It is noiseless unless I touch the screen to change something. It means it is fine to use once it is set, but if I want to make changes that require touching the screen I get a definite "spiky" version of 60hz hum. A definite buzz not hum. When I get a chance I will see if it varies with screen brightness.

                @colin so what’s powering the iPad while you use it?

                The first thing I’d do with a cranky iPad is to do a reset. The one where you hold the home and power button for a while until it restarts

                    @alderre It is running off it's battery as the iRig HD 2 is plugged in to the lightning socket. Restarting made no difference. I tried that when I first had the problem.

                        @colin Also, try different guitar and cable. Different room (EMI).

                          Something in your chain may not be grounded. Could be a crappy guitar cable, as Elric is implying. Look up ground loop.

                            Sorry for delay in responding again. I finally had a chance to test some things out.
                            Guitar -> cable 1 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Mini -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Headphones = Buzz
                            Guitar -> cable 2 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Mini -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Headphones = Buzz
                            Guitar -> cable 1 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Air -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Headphones = Buzz
                            Guitar -> cable 2 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Air -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Headphones = Buzz

                            Above repeated in various locations with same results.

                            Guitar -> cable 1 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Mini -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Focusrite Solo -> Headphones = Good
                            Guitar -> cable 2 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Mini -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Focusrite Solo -> Headphones = Good
                            Guitar -> cable 1 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Air -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Focusrite Solo -> Headphones = Good
                            Guitar -> cable 2 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Air -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Focusrite Solo -> Headphones = Good

                            Guitar -> cable 1 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Mini -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Focusrite Solo -> Computer DAW -> Focusrite Solo -> Headphones = Good
                            Guitar -> cable 2 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Mini -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Focusrite Solo -> Computer DAW -> Focusrite Solo -> Headphones = Good
                            Guitar -> cable 1 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Air -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Focusrite Solo -> Computer DAW -> Focusrite Solo -> Headphones = Good
                            Guitar -> cable 2 -> iRig HD2 - -> iPad Air -> Bias FX -> iRig HD2 -> Focusrite Solo -> Computer DAW -> Focusrite Solo -> Headphones = Good

                            Conclusion:
                            I cannot use an iPad standalone, as a way to use Bias FX. It needs to be grounded through a computer to not have a loud buzz every time I touch the screen. That definitely reduces the app's usefulness. Obviously other people's results may vary and they may have no buzz anywhere.

                              I hear a funny buzz when i touch an electricity source while i have my guitar on my lap and i touch my phone when charging or my laptop when charging, but never when I touch the ipad screen. Neither with the irig hd2 nor the xtone.

                              Why does it bother you though? I mean when are you going to be touching the screen in a live or even better when practicing?

                              It is def a grounding thing for sure.

                                @mehegama The reason it bothers me is because it makes it really hard to tweak settings while listening to the effect the change has.

                                  @colin My guess is that your iPad ought to be checked. Some kind of bad contact in the circuitry from the screen.

                                    It looks like he tried different ipads. I'm not getting this on my HD2 (though I have articles with several different issues and wouldn't be surprised if a ground came loose somewhere)

                                      @john It does the same thing with two iPads. I get a lot of noise in general at my house and cannot use single coil, or coil tapped pickups because of it.

                                          This might also happen because of the fact that the irig uses power from the ipad itself ad creates a loop. If you pass it through another device it fixes it. It is a grounding issue.

                                            I had to change the usb-cable on my HD2. Have you tried another lightning cable? I suppose you have tried varying volume in and volume out on the hd2. Also varying the position of the through-button. And connecting something to the amp-out (or disconnecting). By the way do you have the same sound without guitar cable connected (device alone except for headphones connected to iPad). And then of course hands touching or not touching strings or output socket on guitar.
                                            I guess you’ve tried these things, but these are the last things I can think of except changing interface.
