Issues with BIAS Head after BA2 firmware update
-
I just installed the new BA2 update today and attempted to load the firmware onto my Head. Since then, I've had so many issues that I don't even know where to start with filing tickets.
First, it sat there at Updating Firmware - 0% indefinitely, forcing me to eventually just close the application, hoping i didn't brick my Head in the process.
On next startup, it said the firmware update failed so it would have to try again. It did so, it migrated presets, etc.. and it worked from that point forward.Next, I found that the preset menu takes forever to load, the first time you open it after starting the app, and also seemingly every time you save a preset. Seems like they saved program/plugin loading time by sweeping that load time under the metaphorical carpet (putting it in the menu loading code instead).
Next, I noticed that all of the presets that use cab sims are significantly quieter than my BA1 presets that used IRs. The sim presets have to have the output knob cranked to around 7-8 before they are at a comparable volume level to the IR presets at 4-5.
Next, I noticed that if I take an Amp Match preset and drag the AMP MATCH module out of the signal chain, the Head totally freezes (while continuing to play the last audio sample it had sent to the speaker) and makes a loud pop when i shut it down (which is probably made worse by the fact that i have to crank the new presets so high). While it's frozen like this, none of the controls on the Head work, BA2 cannot interact with it, and Windows gives an error about USB device being unrecognized if you unplug/replug it, etc. until you turn it off and back on.
Also, around the same time I discovered that, I also found that my BA2 has started acting strange as well -- it now asks for my ToneCloud login on every start, instead of just when I switch PCs (the latter being caused by cloud sync of my Documents folder). If I choose to skip the login here, it tells me my Head isn't registered, even though I literally just registered it in the app. Also, on at least one occasion it crashed outright when I tried to close it while the Head was connected (and frozen).
Anyone else experiencing these issues? Anything to add to the list?
Edit: Just now, after disconnecting my Head and closing BA2, my BA2 has suddenly decided it will never open again. I see the process start and then just disappear. Guess I'll wipe the appdata folders and try again. wtf.
Edit2: Just now attempted to factory reset my Head from BA2. Sat there at 'Re

I agree! B1 was weak on output https://forum.positivegrid.com/topic/157/bias-amp-overall-volume-relatively-low
but I found B2 even weaker https://forum.positivegrid.com/topic/472/weak-input-level-on-bias-amp-2-direct-comparison-with-version-1/6From my POV this is a bug, and tonewise a worsening :/

@sascha-ballweg Upon further investigation, in my case it appears to be related to the IR loader vs cab sims ...I think.
It seems like the default level of -12db on the IR loader is noticeably louder than the default level of ...-5.5 ticks? on the cab sim. I have to drop the IR level to around -15db to have the same perceived volume as the cab sim.
This effect seems even more pronounced on my BA1 presets, where i seem to have to drop it to around -20db to match the default cabsim level. Granted, this could be dependent on the other amp settings, but i'm really not sure.
Overall though I don't really like the fact that I now have to fix half my presets due to this sudden levels mismatch.

… and back, right after the bugfix ;)

actually, hell, it seems like the difference is even more severe than I thought -- I was comparing my triple rectifier preset from BA1 with a V30 IR to the stock triple treadplate preset in BA2, but apparently triple treadplate is itself louder than the other presets? bceause when i compare with other new presets, there are some pretty huge differences even after the level adjustments i already made. Like, to the point where I can bring the IR loader's level as low as it can possibly go (-24db) and it still feels ever so slightly louder than the cab sim presets. I don't know what's going on with this.

Just chiming in to advise that I had the same issue when moving the amp match module out of the chain. The guitar amp made a high pitch sound and the software freezed. When I turned the amp off, it made a massive pop through my cab
