Bias FX "calling the world"
-
Hi,
After getting Bias FX Lite through the promo thing in december, I was interested in the current deal for Bias FX Pro.
But I already noticed it with the free version that this thing is nothing else but spyware. Here's a list of connections Bias FX is trying to establish when you call it up:api.positivegrid.com
pg-tonecloud-webapp.herokuapp.com
i.imgur.com
sessions.bugsnag.com
www.google-analytics.com
data.flurry.com
api.parse.com
cdn8.bigcommerce.com
www.googletagmanager.com
www.googleadservices.com
www.affiliatly.com
i.ytimg.com
googleads.g.doubleclick.net
sdk.beeketing.com
connect.facebook.net
bat.bing.com
static.hotjar.com
event.jirafe.com
cdn.listrakbi.com
www.google.com
www.google.de
www.facebook.comNow, I give you that some of these adresses are related to bug tracking and the tone cloud. But most of them aren't. What in the world does FB have to do with me using a plugin? Why would it send ANY information from my machine to Googleads?
Out of all these connections, only one should be allowed to exist for a start, that's the one connecting to PG straight away. And even that should be transparent. In other words: I want to be able to switch it off temporarily or permanently.
As is and as said above, this is spyware. More than pretty much anything else I'm using.Add to this the non existing option to authorize the program without internet access on the target machine. Just another no-go.
In a nutshell, here's what PG is saying with all that: "Yes, you need to have your machine connected to the net because we will then spy out your data!".
So, as I still like the sound of Bias FX: Are there any plans to change this any day soon? If not, you'll be losing a customer.
Quite obviously, I will as well tell others of this. -
oh man....
From what I can tell, these are all related to the tone cloud function that is built in. Facebook can be used to log in to a PG account. I guess that the google stuff is for analytics... ?
I might be making this up. But it is a little wonky to see all these sites.
Then again, this is the internet age, and I have just given up on privacy. I think google knows, based on gps, camera and phone mic, when I hit the Loo to recycle yesterday's meal....

I wonder how much this is related to the performance issues, especially on first launch. Its actually getting bad enough that at times I am looking at different plugins

Well, I don't think googleadservices are for analytics. Neither are ytimg (YouTube), imgur and what not.
And if you prefer to log into PG via FB, there's other ways. Apart from that, when I'm using a plugin, I usually don't want to log into FB.Then again, this is the internet age, and I have just given up on privacy. Well, in a way you're right. And I've got nothing to hide. But when I'm using Google, YT and what not while being logged in (which I do most of the time), I know what I'm doing. It's my decision - and not the decision of an audio processor.
And I'm pretty sure that this is one of the reaons for the sluggish behaviour on first load.
This is simply not acceptable and Bias users should raise their voices against such things loud and clear.

Fwiw, I actually bought FX Pro last nite, despite my anger about the "calling anywhere" sitiuation.
At least I do now feel like having the right to complain.I'd take pretty much any bet that the slow first load is directly related to this issue, so that's another horrible thing.
Instead of making things spyware, Bias should concentrate on improving the product itself - which will be a whole lot better advertising than sending our data to Google.

Now, after update, 20 sec to load the amps.
That´s realy better. -
@kastanienfond
Which update are you talking about?
