Bias Amp 2 Modelling Workflow with IRs
-
Hi everyone! How do you manage your workflow when working on a sound with Bias Amp 2?
Do you start directly from the modules (preamp, tone stack, etc) and then edit the cab using different IRs until you find the "correct" IR for your tone, or you start from an IR that you've like and then model in every section?
Thanks !

I tend to start with an IR then work backwards until I have a sound I like, then also save it with a few different IRs, which makes a quicker and easier way to see how things fit into a mix than an EQ for me

Great post/question. I'm similar to @pipelineaudio .... I almost always:
- Find an amp that suits the style/application
- "Ballpark" the amp settings to get a basic sound; sometimes don't even touch them to start
- Really fiddle with cabs/IRs
- Fine tune amp settings; most times I do not mess with gobs and gobs of amp internals but may do so here. Gain stages, tube type, etc.
- Do pre/post EQ curves; the Bias Amp parametric is quite sweet.
The cab is a big part of it, and I do not really do major surgery on deep amp parameters. I generally try to start from a base that is not far from target so the deep edits are getting a little more of something from the response rather than an overhaul.
Sometimes with Bias I will get into an "I wanna design my own Amp for fun" kind of mode and that is a different style of use and not as common. Kind of looking for inspiration in that scenario.

Sounds logic @pipelineaudio and @Elric ! , last days I've tried in the opposite order and the results were bad, considering the big influence of the IRs.
Now, to select IR cabs you use the BA2 interface? Now I'm using Lancaster's Pulse plugin - bypassing the cab in BA2 -, it's a little faster to do A/B tests.
I pretend to take the "selected" IRs then to BA2 and iterate from there (also considering the 20 character limitation in the IRs name in BA2). -
Same here, i run the cabs in NADIR until I'm sure about them, then I stick them in Bias Amp (usually Amp 1, as I'm still a bit scared about the high end roll off in Bias Amp 2), run a -15dbfs white noise in front of Bias and try and level match from there before I save it as a new amp
