Speaker / interface recommendations

I am demoing FX and Amp. My current setup just doesn't cut it. Especially the speakers, they can't handle distortion or most notes on the 6th string. I also notice a small latency problem with my interface.
The range I am considering is maybe a small Focusrite interface and $200-250 each for speakers. I don't care if it's a Focusrite, its just an example. I am kind of interested in the IK iLoud speakers, but I can't believe 3" speakers can handle the guitar output.
Thanks! -
I have the Alto TS210 and LOVE it with Bias FX, looking at the TS310 next time.
Also, I have a pretty up to date audio interface latency chart here:

Depending on how you’ll be using it... I have a pair is Yamaha hsm5s that sound awesome with bias and other plugins. I’m running a Native Intruments KA6

Great card for iOS - was using one the last 6 years or so, I also have a DPS II digital tube preamp with s/pdif out that adds two more mic/line inputs - actually going to sell this setup as I continue to downsize my retired life
-
@pipelineaudio : the TS210 is no longer offered at the Musician's Friend, etc.
latency roundup: that color shifting top banner is trippy at first.... Where it says USB, is that 1.1? I would think 1.1 wouldn't handle 64s as well as noted. I would think 2.0 would be a bit better, and 3.0 (let alone Firewire and PCIe) wildly better. What does it mean when the interace type isn't noted? Also, I run mine at 16s. Why stop at 64?
-
I think its probably USB 2 when not otherwise noted. Usually you don't even have to go as low as 64 to tell when a company is lying, 256 or 128 will usually show what you need. I guess next round I could go for lower block sizes, but most interfaces don't support them, and most people wouldn't run that low (many FX have RT CPU time longer anyway)
-
Thanks, I hadn't considered those types of speakers. I was thinking of studio monitors.
Does the KA6 work with iOS? In the latency comparison chart, it is a little high. But I guess that hasn't been a problem for those using it, correct?
Thanks! -

Thanks!NI Komplete Audio 6 card working for years with anything I throw at it. I get lower latency on my Mac then in that Chart - Latency should not be an issue.
Here is a picture of mine that is up for grabs.

Cheers !

sweet thanks

@antkn33 mine works with iOS with the usb3.0 cck and surprisingly does not even require a powered usb hub to get it working properly. It is a really nice upgrade from the behringer card I was using.
-
@tafkad do you ever use the spdif connections on the KA6? I haven’t tried it yet.
-
Yep used to use it all the time for my guitar and bass inputs, I set one channel up for the guitar and the other for bass and could just plug into the one I needed and go. I was using a 1950's GE 6072 triple mica tube in it (keeping) that I prefer to AX7's especially the crap ones made after the 70's - I sell tubes...

Love that feature just plug power into the CCK and the card works great and the iPad stays charged much longer in use. I was using a passive USB-HUB with the CCK for a bit so I could plug in my midi controller too and it was perfect as well with both. (now the controller is Bluetooth)

Thats the reported latency, not the round trip latency
-
That's the reported latency, not the round trip latency
Not sure if you mean on your chart or in my example pictures? these pictures show round trip latency
-
How are they showing round trip latency? I know it says it, but is that actually measured, or just reported? They're often extremely different than each other, which is why I was making this chart. I'm not sure what that software on the right side is, maybe it is some sort of measuring software? If its truly that low round trip, I need to update my chart, but I'm not sure yet
-
@pipelineaudio Yes, those numbers are not measured and should be considered best case guesses, the real world latency is almost certainly more. TBH, I don't care too much about measuring latency... Either it's above your personal threshold or it's not and in either case you will feel it immediately. I have not had latency problems with an interface in years and I own like six or seven. I think I would be comfortable buying a new interface without specific data as long as users are not reporting issues.

Exactly and very well put - it's been years for me too since any latency issues here, like 15+ and should continue to be a thing of the past as we move on
On a side note before the NIK6 card I was all RME including the RME 8 channel pre - then I read somewhere that the NIK6 had inside some same chips as RME and tried it out and found it to be a quality interface that has served me for at least 8 years now and shows why NI has no need to upgrade it yet - though with all the new communication standards since I'm sure someday they may release a new card

@tafkad does the spdif give a better signal to noise ratio or better input into the interface than the high z input on the front?
-

That will depend on the unit using the connection I'd guess as S/PIDF is digital communication - the comparison would be between the NIK6 inputs and the DPS II inputs for SNR - after that I'd guess there is little to no difference between digital forms of transfer (e.g. USB vs S/PIDF) in the end you are listening to this unit trough USB most times
I just like tubes and there impact sonically even when just a little as in the DPS II
