mini speaker out bypasses cab sim
-
I just got the bias mini the other day and i have a Xitone FRFR wedge. When i go speaker out to the wedge so i can use the built in power amp it bypasses the cab sim, which in turn makes it sound like a tin can. Is there a reason that that is disabled at the jack? why couldn't you just create a preset with or without a cab sim if you want to use it that way instead of the hardware making that decision for you? It seems like its a real drawback for people that own FRFR cabs and want to use the built in poweramp. If i am misunderstanding or using this incorrectly please let me know because right now using it that way with the speaker out is unusable.
Thanks,

This is such a huge subject, and one where manufacturers often get so ridiculously wrong. Its probably the most often discussed email between me and amp sim makers...this really needs to be well thought out and can be done to take on all situations

Try the Line Out - or the FX send.
-
@tannhauser Hi and thanks for the reply. If i have to use the fx loop or the line out for that, i cant use them for my pedal board or the mixer( which doesn't work anyway, but that's in another post ). I think the best solution that i have found so far that works perfectly is to use my Kemper lol. This product IMO is not ready to be released yet.

@pipelineaudio I couldn't agree with you more, the people in product design who let this out the door should be embarrassed by that decision. I hope its something they can fix with a firmware update.

I'm working on it....typically I hammer on many companies at once, until something just clicks and I can go back to my actual job of just using the tools and not trying to mod them. But PG's stuff sounds so amazingly good to me that I'm spending almost all of my time bugging them
-
@pipelineaudio well your efforts are truly appreciated, thank you vet much. I agree it sounds great, and the reason I got it is because it’s so small and easy to bring back and forth to rehearsal. I’m surprised no one from PG hasn’t responded to my other post about the line out not working with the Mackie mixer
-
as an experiment, do you have a direct box or a dc blocker of any sort you can put between the mini and the mackie xlr in? and as an experiemtn, like @Tannhauser (well the other direction I mean) can you do the xlr out to a line in or fx return on the mackie (would need to adapt xlr to 1/4" and depending on the makie may not matter TRS or TS)
-
@pipelineaudio I will give I a try, the mixer is at my rehearsal space so won’t be there till the end of next week but thanks for the ideas, will give it a try

We used to use stuff like this just in case....but jeez, this one, put a nuemann looking logo on it and sell it for 40 bucks, ouch

@davidzais Hi David, the reason of this is because we believe guitarists are always sending the Speaker-Output to cabinets on stage, so the Cab-Sim feature on the SP-Out seemed to be unnecessary. I will share your thoughts to our product team to see if we can have enhance it in the near future.
-
@felix Hi Felix, that would be much appreciated, im sure there are a lot of us out there using modelers like this that have FRFR speakers for that very reason and dont want to have to buy a new cabinet to use this, so i appreciate your passing that along. I am actually more concerned about this post though

Because this issue is preventing me from using this unit at rehearsal or live. This is a big issue, i hope someone there might be able to get their hands on one of these mixers to test what is going on here. again thanks for your help.

@davidzais Noted! Thanks for the information anyway.
Concerning the noise on XLR-Out: I've got an update from @phil-saindon, and he confirmed that the white noise on the XLR-Output was caused by a cable issue going from patch/splitter to the mixing board. Can you help me to check it again? Feel free to PM or drop me a line.

Hi felix, i tried this with a couple of different cables and then we used the same cables on a mic and they worked fine so i think the cables were good. Could it have something to do with , as suggested by pipeline audio, the phantom power on the mixers xlr input? i bought a phantome power blocker to see if that helps at all

Even if it doesn't, thats kind of a must have for a recording or touring musician anyway, right next to a soldering iron. Money well spent. Your ribbon mic friends will make a hero out of you

@davidzais Can you let me know the specific gain stage/output level on the Mackie mixer and the MINI Amp? I've got a similar feedback from a user, and the noise can be eliminated if he cuts the gain level on the mixer, and add more Output level from the MINI Amp.
-
Yet another reason for a reference level function on any software or hardware
-
@felix we tweaked all the gain settings on both devices, there was no amp sounds at all from the mini, just hiss.
-
@davidzais Can you let me know the specific volume level(Output/Gain) on each devices? Will give it a test later.

Hi There, just curious if there has been any feedback on the speaker out disabling the cab sim in the patches. I have to say, i took this unit to an audition the other night, and plugged it into a marshall 4 X 12 and it sounded like absolute crap! It was thin and tinny. I take that same preset and go xlr out into my Friedman ASM 12 powered cab and it sounds great. This really makes this thing unusable if i just want to plug into a speaker cab and not have to lug that powered cab with me everywhere, which aint light. I could use an xlr- 1/4" into my xitone unpowered cab but...DOH! than it bypasses the poweramp in the mini.
Is there any plans to make that disabling of the cab sim on the speaker out configurable?Regards,
David
