Firmware 1.5.4.102 Fix(?)
-
Sigh... fancy having to sort this out ourselves. I got my Spark a day or so ago, and after the app prompted to upgrade the FW, I diligently did so like many of you only to find dead silence. Reverting to the 1.2 FW fixed the issue, however there were no new amps and features. So it was time to investigate...
In any case I've put together a 1.5.4.102 updater that worked for me, and I tested it a number of times. The Hendrix stuff is all working too, assuming you bought it :)
RUN THE BAT file - DON'T RUN THE UPDATER EXE DIRECTLY!!!

Enjoy :-)

@ramonster Thanks so much for this. Have tried all the other ones to no avail but this worked . I also had just got the logging updater from support which also didn't work. did a binary compare of yours vs the one they supplied expecting them to be the same and they're different for what is supposed to be the 1.5.4.102 firmware (also 732k vs 738k).
Id love to know whats going on here
Thanks again
-
@ramonster I have the same issue but this one hasn't worked for me unfortunately, unboxed my spark yesterday and applied the firmware before using it like the app told me, wish I had just played through it first!
-
@grantsdawson sorry to hear, I tried every other fix and way to get the 1.5.4.102 working and only this worked (apart from downgrade). If you ran the updater.exe directly and a window popped up etc that will be why. You have to run the BAT file, not the EXE, fingers crossed this is why it didn't work for you. Turn on the amp, plug it in, wait 5 seconds or so to detect, then run the BAT file, the 5 lights will flash a few times, about 20-30 seconds later the tempo light will be flashing and 1st light on, its good to go. Good luck.
-
@ramonster any idea whats going on? Why is your firmware different from the one thst support issues? Why does doing the same update with logging turned on make a difference ( other than it might be ever so slightly slower). I noticed there was different pattern of all 5 leds being on for a few secs off for a few secs maybe 5 times over . Why do people talk about the asio driver - isnt that used only on the audio side of things? The machine that it finally worked on for me doesnt have the asio driver. Is it all just coincidence when it decides to work?
-
Please, I need help. While I was updating the Firmware, the electricity went away. Now all the LEDs flash and it doesn't even make me reset.
Thank you very much in advance for those who will be able to answer me.

Thanks RaMonster, turned amp on, plugged in waited 5 secs ran batch file (I remember DOS) lights flashed but no cigar, I still own the worlds quietest amp.
How does one downgrade? I see you mentioned this earlier
-
@roy-preece to downgrade grab the file from the other thread (support one with log) and run the exe directly ignoring their instruction to run the batch file. That version of the exe will downgrade you back to 1.2 and most likely restore sound. If you do successfully downgrade it might be worth trying my 1.5 fix again as this is the path I used successfully.

Hi,
i have a mac is there any file who can fix the issue on a mac?
Thanks for your help

Posting to hopefully help someone else. Got my Spark 40 on the 1.2 firmware factory shipped. Tried to update via the official updater. No sound but showing as updated to 1.5 firmware.
Tried to update 30 times with varying combinations of sound driver, unplugged first, plugged first etc. all to no avail. Here's what worked for me.
- Install ASIO driver
- Factory reset on amp
- Turn off amp
- Turn off all local bluetooth devices that the Spark could connect to
- Do not have usb connected
- Turn on amp and wait for it to start flashing on the tempo and 1st preset light
- Plug in usb into PC and then amp
- Run the BAT file from RaMoNsTeR (thanks for your help)
- Check the log file generated (same folder as BAT), if it shows an ever increasing percentage and then firmware updated message, it worked, you should now have sound. If you get either firmware update failed or no device, retry the steps 2-8.
- Good luck and thanks again to RaMoNsTeR!

I've just received a Pearl Spark today and have encountered this problem. Like a previous poster I'm using a Mac so the solution in this thread won't work for me. I've sent in a support ticket to Positive Grid but looking at this forum has made me pessimistic about getting a useful response any time soon. I'd love to keep the amp as it looks great and the app seems very good too but it's of no use if it doesn't work so I'm wondering what people think about keeping it to see if a fix comes along soon or returning it for a refund.
-
@digger-81 Yeah Naaah, followed exact process here and I am still the proud owner of a brand new Positive Grid Dodo!
This thing is deader than a Dodo, it is absolutely disgraceful that PG customers are resorting to install code written by other customers because there is no other solution. This would be a great way to scam the usually careful but now totally frustrated and desperate people into running malicious code.
No offence RAMonster, appreciate your efforts here ...
-
@roy-preece I hear ya buddy, hopefully they can sort it out, although in fairness if you check out the dates of some posts with this issue it seems like they just don't care or can't fix it. I suspect there are differences in the hardware out there that aren't being accounted for by the updater i.e. slightly different controller chip / flash init.
-
I URGE YOU NOT TO DOWNLOAD OR CLICK ON ABOVE LINKS.
Problems always need to be assessed by qualified technical staff before a solution is beeing applied. And you you shouldn't trust anyone except the Positive Grid staff members when you're required to download a exe or bat file.
RaMoNsTeR has probably good intentions but from a security point this post is an heresy. You should never download or click on something proposed by someone don't know on a public place as you're not protected from a potential malicious members or abuse.
If you have issues following the firmware update, there's only one place to go : the PG support desk.
Thank you

@ramonster i'm not quite sure they don't care as this is clearly bad press for them.
Negative reviews are popping up here and there. And these frustrated users are always more vocal than happy users. If you have an idea/solution, better is to contact them a propose them, rather than pushing your own files which may not work in some cases... what about warranty in this case
-
@keithharcus I am in the exact same postion doing precisely what you did today on my brand new Pearl. The amp worked beautifully out of the box, until I updated the firmware on my MacBook Pro. Now its dead and I have no idea what to try next, after countless firmware re-tries and a system re-set. ? I have submitted a help ticket, but feel so let down on this new purchase. It may have to be returned. Terrible. If anyone can help would greatly appreciate

@paul-rampling mine hasnt worked at all. Recieved 2 days ago. Bluetooth connection is fine but theres no sound from either bluetooth or guitar. I have left a message viw their website and instagram. Havent heard anything yet.
-
@edo-cico-ic I'm in the same boat. I have a MacBook Pro running the latest Monterey OS, and after receiving delivery of my Pearl today and having run the firmware update I have a completely dead amp.
-
@ramonster this worked for me as well - thx.
Where did you source the bin file from?
FWIW here is what I had done previously:
- Brand new Perl
- Connected to phone
- Prompted to update.
- Update appeared to work
- No audio...
-
@paul-rampling what a shame....I'm still searching on the net but nothing seams to work...I've contacted PG and waiting for an answer....
