Spark crashed after firmware install
-
Hello
my spark has crashed since my attempt to update the firmware.
I started again 50 times, cutting the bluetooth, the antivirus, the firewall, etc.
When I connect it to the update software, my serial number no longer appears and I get the message: Firmware update failed.
All the LEDs flash on the Spark and there is no sound coming out of the speakers. He's just dead.
Factory reset does not work either.
I contacted support but I have no feedback ...
Did it happen to someone and do you have the solution?

same thing happened to me. Except that non of the led lights come on anymore. Help! Tried to update firmware. Now its a brick.

most logic rom on equipment, has different commands to bypass certain procedures. eg. pressing different buttons at certain times with or without power on.
I wonder if they will give you this info or would rather want you to send the spark back.
I'd be pretty p!ssed off if I had to send it back -
...That's why I will likely NOT update the firmware until all (ALL) the other issues are solved and EVERYONE who updates the firmware gets zero problems as a result... :-(
My updater doesn't even see my Spark. And if the Spark is connected to the computer via USB the computer can't reboot...
MacBook Pro 16" with the latest updates in OSX Catalina. -
My one has done the exact same thing, did you get a solution from Positive Grid? I have submitted to support but who knows when I will hear back.

@phill same just happened to me as well. Yesterday evening I updated the firmware and all played OK. Today, coming back from work, and it is dead as a brick. Tap and preset lights blink, I can connect with bluetooth but no sound at all...
Update : Just re-installed the firmware update and it came back to life.. phew...

Ditto. Did the update, all OK, new amps present etc. Today, brick, like you can connect but no sound, tuner doesn't work, etc. Repeated the update, all good again. I can think of no logical reason for this. Go figure...

AFTER INSTALLING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE ALL MY LIGHTS COME ON i.e. tap light and power light and presets 1-4. HOWEVER WHEN I PLUG MY GUITAR IN ... NO SOUND COMES OUT....WTF IS GOING ON ???
THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF AFTER WAITING 4 MONTHS TO GET THIS AMP AND NOW IT'S JUST A USELESS DOOR STOP!!!
HELLLLLLLP!!! -
@jdan-d-bassman turn off Bluetooth. Remove spark from Bluetooth connections. Add spark as new Bluetooth connection

Mine is still a brick with all 5 LED's blinking, Support from these guys is totally rubbish. The most I have so far is to run the attached script: (macOS users) they said it should force the restart but it didn't. They then sat to export the log as a text file and send it back to them. They then come back saying to do a reset, even though I have told them multiple times the reset won't work because it is bricked.
Anyway guys I have put this on a Google drive for you guys who have macs, see if it works for you. You will need to right-click and open the file as it needs admin privileges to run. Good luck.

Also please let us know if anyone finds a solution. Multiple attempts have not worked for me.
-
Phil, can you give some instruction on how to run the script you shared?
-
Hi, has anyone got a solution for this as yet? I did the firmware upgrade this morning MacOS Monterey. It started the update, all the lights tab and all 4 channel lights started blinking then the firmware updater just said firmware update failed. Now the amp is stuck on the blinking lights, no matter how many times I restart the amp seems to be in the updating state.

I have the exact same problem... flashing lights, no sounds and showing 255.255.255.255 for the firmware version.. then sent me a BUNCH of worthless fixes and "rest assured" messages, but then they escalated this to a person named "Wieting" and he sent a similar fix as the first group of support. I ran their .bat file and got this as my resulting log:
Found MIDI IN device:Spark 40
Found MIDI OUT device:Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth
Found MIDI OUT device:Spark 40
No device foundI think they have a serious problem, amps are getting FRIED and they need to start swapping them out and fix their patches, etc
-
I have the exact same issue. Can't see your reply as well. Did someone found a fix? my amp is unuseable..
-
@alexisr mine too. It’s a scam. By god I wish I’d gone with a boss katana of fender mustang instead. Positive Grid is a con.
-
I have the same issue. Did the Firmware update. Says update failed. Now my four presets and tuner continuously blink and no sound. Last time I'll try there update if this thing ever gets fixed. Has anyone slowed a similar issue?

@smiley-da-raskal
Which Spark Amp do you have? I know that with my Spark 40, I have to carefully follow the (ever changing and convoluted) instructions. In particular, it’s important to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable at the specific times identified within the procedure. And in some cases, based on other members experiences, the installation may require a factory reset after the procedure is completed, whether specified or not. I’ve never had a problem performing a firmware update from my PC; however I’ve always been anal about following and double-checking procedures both before and during the process.
