Looping with the Spark Amp - Solved!
-
I have been using Quantiloop (ipad app) with my spark amp with no issues AND it allows me to use different effects patches as well. You could use any ipad looper app you want, you will just need a couple of hardware items to accomplish the task. You will need 4 items: 1 - IPAD, 2 - USB Camera Adapter with Charging Port (amazon - about $10), 3 - 1/8 inch stereo patch cable (headphone cable), 4 - USB Type A to Type B Printer Cable (the spark may have come with one)
Heres how to connect it.
- Connect USB Type A to B Printer Cable to back of spark amp (interface out)
- Connect other end of USB A to B Printer Cable to the USB Cable Adapter with Charging Port (not sure if it has to have the charging port, the one I bought did, but probably not required)
- Plug USB Cable Adapter with Charging Port into IPAD
- Connect 1/8 inch stereo cable between IPAD headphone out to Spark Amp Aux In
Now turn the Spark Amp OUTPUT volume (next to the REVERB knob) all the way down (fully Counter clockwise)
Plug in you guitar into the amp and launch whatever audio program you wish (I use Quantiloop)
Make sure IPAD volume is turned up and adjust the MUSIC VOLUME knob (next to the headphone jack) on the Spark to the desire loudness.
Now you can record a loop a loop using one patch (clean for example) and solo over it using a different patch (lead patch for example).
I even use a bluetooth pedal to control the Quantilooper. You can also use this config to record into Garage Band or any other app you wish. Works like a champ! -
It'll take awhile to get my head around what you're doing but it sounds like a cool hack. Thanks for sharing.

@thermality only works with older iPads since newer iPads do not have a 1/8" headphone jack.

I’ve tried doing this exactly as you describe but am getting a lot of feedback when i go to turn up the volume a little bit so i can hear it. Not sure what I’m doing wrong?
